Festival Theatre, Stratford Festival is a theatre in Toronto.
Directed by Antoni Cimolino in his final Shakespeare production before concluding his tenure at the Stratford Festival, The Tempest stars Geraint Wyn Davies as Prospero, a deposed duke who conjures a storm at sea to draw his betrayers within reach. What begins as a reckoning...
Guys and Dolls, directed and choreographed by Donna Feore, opens the Stratford Festival's 2026 season at the Festival Theatre. Set in Manhattan's underground gambling scene, the musical follows a smooth-talking gambler who bets he can charm a pious missionary, while another...
Prophetess is a rabbit hole kind of tale, one that's a chaotic descent into madness. Playing now at the Tarragon Theatre until November 1 2026, this dynamic production is written by Ho Ka Kei (Jeff Ho) and directed/dramaturged by Mike Payette. Prophetess is the kind of show that is ripe for theatre …
The Canadian Opera Company’s remount of its 2014 production of Cosí Fan Tutte, originally directed by Atom Egoyan, brings to bear all of the performance and creative excellence for which the COC is known. However, in the post- #MeToo era, and amidst the Cornell 7 scandal, this 236-year-old work h…
Booty Candy is perfect for 2026. It has just the right blend of hilarity and hyperbole to take your mind off current events and just enough home truths to give a voice to the shared pain, fear and rage of all of us whose very existence is subversive during these turbulent times. At a time when pla…
Multi-Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys lends her soulful and iconic tunes to Hell's Kitchen on stage now at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre, directed by Patrick Willingham and Oskar Eustis (artistic director) with book by Kristoffer Diaz. This moving coming-of-age story features the the…
WALDEN is more successful in its exploration of family dynamics than as a work of speculative fiction. However, Icarus Theatre’s production at The Theatre Centre, directed by Erik Richards, still takes off for an engaging 90 minutes of theatre.…
Canadian Opera Company’s season opener La Traviata pulls out all the stops and sets an extremely high bar for the rest of its 26-27 offerings. My companion has been coming to the opera with me for many years, and she was blown away, proclaiming this as one of her all-time faves. “A triumph,” s…
Spring Awakening at Soulpepper Theatre is a well-executed and expertly-crafted sensory delight (though the dark themes this play tackles are far from delightful) that offers an intense, almost cinematic theatre-going experience.…
The Shaw Festival seems to be having a small tribute festival to Shaffer brothers as it is presenting two of their known pieces this season. The dark mystery SLEUTH by Anthony Shaffer is now playing to great acclaim at the Court House Theatre and more recently and the comic drama AMADEUS by Sir Pe…
An embarrassment of artistic riches has yet again convened in Niagara on the Lake for this season’s Shaw Festival. Two very different plays are given world class productions sharing many of the same talents. Last week I attended Anthony Shaffer’s psychological thriller SLEUTH at the intima…
THE GREAT GATSBY is most definitely not your high school lit class. At the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre, the music is loud, the dancing is hot, and the passions are hotter.…
The Amateurs is a new TV comedy written by Susan Coyne, Bob Martin, and Mark McKinney, the writing team behind Slings & Arrows, presented as a staged reading of its first two episodes. Set in rural Ontario, it tells a heartfelt and funny origin story of a Shakespeare festival...
