War Virgin by Laura Westley is a bold, funny, and deeply personal coming-of-age memoir that follows Laura’s journey from a sheltered upbringing in New Port Richey, Florida, through her years at West Point, and into the realities of serving during the war in Iraq.
At its heart, War Virgin is about identity, resilience, sexuality, faith, military culture, and the complicated road toward self-acceptance. It is touching, sharp, and often very funny, giving audiences a powerful look at one woman’s battle to protect and own her truth.
Told with humor, honesty, and emotional punch, the play explores a young woman’s struggle against repression, expectation, temptation, and fear as she fights to discover and claim her own identity. It is both a “war story” and a story of personal liberation, about surviving the systems that try to define you and finding the courage to define yourself.
War Virgin runs June 19–28 and July 10–12 at TheatreFor.
