Savages at Theatre Works

Savages is a play by Patricia Cornelius directed by Kitan Petkovski, in which an ensemble of women and non-binary actors perform the roles of ordinary Australian men, exposing the performance of masculinity with theatrical force and dark humour. The play charts the descent of a carefree holiday among friends into cruelty, aggression, and brutality, inspired by a tragic death aboard a cruise ship in 2002. The production examines the fragile foundations of male identity and the social codes that encourage violence. The cast features Nicci Wilks, AYA Taur, Zoe Boesen, and Laila Thaker, with lighting design by Harrie Hogan, sound design by Jess Keeffe, and set and costume design by Bianca Pardo.
