Written by Heather McDonald and directed by Nadia Tass, Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity makes its Australian premiere as part of the 2026 By Theatre Works season. Inspired by the 2001 UNESCO proclamation, the play follows three women—a hardened soldier, a nurse, and an art restorer—trapped inside a war-ravaged museum, forced to weigh survival against the preservation of beauty and human history. The production is performed by Jane Montgomery-Griffiths, Kate Cole, and Laila Thaker, with lighting design by David Parker, sound design by Daniel Nixon, and set and costume design by Ishan Vivekanantham. The work originally premiered in the United States in 2019 and runs 95 minutes without intermission.
