Ordinary women become working class heroes in this true story of the Atlanta 1881 Washerwomen Strike, America's first successful interracial organized labor strike. Tired of being overworked and underpaid, Black laundresses stage a strike just weeks before the International Cotton Expedition comes to town. The story gives us an intimate and often humorous peek at the women who fought for their rights and won. Directed by Erica Sutherlin, Founder/CEO at Sinuous Bourbon and Artistic Executive Director at The Studio at 620 (St. Petersburg, FL). Presented as part of a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere and with support from The National Endowment for the Arts, The Black Rep’s Sophisticated Ladies Initiative and Caleres. Show runs March 12-March 30 at the Catherine B. Berges Theatre at COCA. Tickets range from $20-$50. Wednesdays and Thursdays - 7:00 P.M. Fridays and Saturdays - 8:00 P.M. Sundays - 3:00 P.M.
