A new play by Eric Satterfield with Hazel McIntire
Directed by Nikki Pilato
Gabby and Leo are drawn together in a whirlwind romance, but their greatest struggle isn’t just love—it’s confronting the weight of their past, their bodies, and a world that refuses to accept them as they are. Raw, fearless, and deeply moving, this play challenges perceptions, ignites conversation, and proves that the hardest journey is learning to love yourself.
CONTENT WARNING: This production contains adult language, mature themes, depictions of generational abuse, sexual situations, and a raw, unfiltered exploration of the experiences of people in larger bodies and the societal challenges they face. Viewer discretion is advised.

Satterfield and McIntire’s blunt script carries a lot of unflinching truths about being overweight. Heavy takes on weighty topics. There are several frank adult themed discussions and overt sexuality. It is bold writing with a lot of humor and has much to say about life as an obese person. Heavy is entertaining overall even with the second act plunge into sentimentalism.
