Prima Facie at How Now Brown Cow

Prima Facie, the South African premiere of Suzie Miller's award-winning play, is directed by Neil Coppen and stars Danica De La Rey Jones as Tessa, a brilliant young barrister who rises from working-class origins to the top of her profession. Tessa's world is upended when a brutal attack forces her to navigate the very legal system she once championed, leaving her to question everything she believed about justice. The play is a hard-hitting examination of the patriarchal power of the law and the way justice systems handle sexual assault cases. The 2022 London production received five Laurence Olivier Award nominations, winning Best New Play and Best Actress for Jodie Comer, who went on to win a Tony Award for the role on Broadway.
