A new production of Tom Eyen's THE WHITE WHORE AND THE BIT PLAYER, directed by the 2012 recipient of the Fleur du Cap Lifetime Achievement Award, Christopher Weare, (THE SOUND OF LAUGHTER, GROUNDED, COWBOY MOUTH), will open at the Alexander Bar tonight.

The 65-minute dark comedy is the story of one woman who did not quite make it. Based on icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow, the play explores the tension between public adoration and private angst for an actress caught between two identities - the nun she imagined herself to be and the whore that the world imagined her to be.

THE WHITE WHORE AND THE BIT PLAYER will be performed by Jazzara Jaslyn (EVERY BEAUTIFUL THING, THE WHITE MAN'S GUIDE TO SACTIFICE) and Donna Cormack-Thomson (BLACK DOG/INJ'ENMYAMA, WOUNDS TO THE FACE).

THE WHITE WHORE AND THE BIT PLAYER will hold two private previews for press and invited audiences tonight and tomorrow, with a public run from 23 - 28 May. Tickets cost R100 - R120. Bookings can be made online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased at the bar. For telephone bookings and enquiries, call 021 300 1652. Alexander Bar & Café is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed onFacebook and Twitter.
