Photo Coverage: AS DROME VLERKE KRY Wings Its Way to Aardklop

Hennie Smit and Arina De Witt are onstage in AS DROME VLERKE KRY at this year's Aardklop National Arts Festival in Potchefstroom. The production forms part of a season of five shows from Lefra Productions at the festival, with the lineup also including FIELA SE KIND, MY MAN SE SKELMPIE SE SKELMPIE SE VROU, ONTBLOOT and MY PA.

Set in a retirement village, AS DROME VLERKE KRY sees two world-renowned entertainers relish memories of the good times they have had in days gone by. When a concert is announced at the old-age home, everyone is keen to get the show on the road, especially Aria Von Waltzleben and Egbertus Wolmarans. Aria, also known as Fanny Galore, sees herself as the soulmate of Maria Callas and Edith Piaf and was a showgirl in Las Vegas in the 1960s, while Egbertus is a Swartland teacher who has been in love with her for many years.

Popular South actor and stage personality Hennie Smit (MY BOETIE SE SUSSIE SE OU, EGOLI - PLEK VAN GOUD and PRETORIA, O PRETORIA!) joins forces with well-known singer and actor Arina De Witt (SPIES EN PLESSIS) to perform AS DROME VLERKE KRY. The set design for the production is by Hugo Hewitt en Shaun van Eck, while the sound and lighting are by Gustav van Rooyen. Graphic design work for the show is by Mornè Prinsloo. The show is directed by Frans Swart, who says:

This show was written especially for Hennie and Arina. It is a moving show about how people still have a role to play in their lives when they get older. I am privileged to be working with two of the most talented actors and singers in South Africa. Hennie is an icon in South Africa, and Arina is a formidable actress, but also one of South Africa's top sopranos. Together they form an incredible team. The story is unique, and with so much talent on stage, I am thirilled that this will certainly be one of the biggest hits of 2017. This storytelling and music theatre show will leave you with laughter and tears, and the realisation that you are who you were born to be when your dreams take flight. AS DROME VLERKE KRY is a nostalgic journey and a must-see for everyone's calendar!

AS DROME VLERKE KRY, which is presented with the support of Christo Strydom Nutrition, Stuttaford Van Lines, RSG and Sounds Good, plays the Lefra Stadsaal at Aardklop on 4 October 2017 at 14:00 en 5 October at 20:00.
