Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, formerly known as Benjamin Barker, who returns to nineteenth century London, seeking revenge against the judge who framed him many years ago. Renaming himself Sweeney Todd, the now-mad man vows revenge against all who wronged him, applying his razor to unlucky customers and shuttling the bodies down to Mrs. Lovett’s pie shop to supply the pies with cheap, fresh meat. Though many unfortunate souls fall to his blade, Todd will not find satisfaction until he slits the judge’s throat and obtains his final revenge.

A native New Yorker, Neil Simon is recognized as Broadway's King of Comedy. Following his very successful 1961 production of COME BLOW YOUR HORN, Simon's name on a script basically meant instant box office sell-outs during the era from 1960-1980, the Great White Way's era of comic plays.

On March 19, 2018, Virginia's Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre honored legendary Broadway composer John Kander with the company's ninth Stephen Sondheim Award. The Stephen Sondheim Award was presented at a black-tie Gala Benefit at the Embassy of Italy and will benefit Signature Theatre's artistic, education, and community programs.

The Bench stars Robert Galinsky and marks the New York directorial debut of Jay O. Sanders. It began its limited run at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) on October 15 and will initially run Sunday evening at 7pm through December 17, 2017. '9 to 5 The Musical' is based on the 1980 comedy film which starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton. After the success of the movie, which is credited with being the 20th highest grossing comedy film, Parton decided to add music and put the story on stage.

Rubicon Theatre Company celebrates Black History Month with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF BESSIE SMITH, starring singer and actress Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway production (named one of the 10 Best Off-Broadway productions of the year by the N.Y. American Theater Company (ATC) opens musical comedy Xanadu, the final production of its Legacy Season, this Sunday, June 5. Presented as a tribute to ATC's late Artistic Director PJ Paparelli-a not-so-secret fan of this camp classic-Xanadu is directed by Lili-Anne Brown and runs at ATC now through July 17, 2016. The production has music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, based on the 1980 Universal Pictures film of the same title.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Anne Jackson, who was nominated for a Tony in 1956 for MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and who enjoyed a long career with her husband, Eli Wallach, died Tuesday, April 12, in Manhattan. She was 90.

Thursday, May 28 at 6:30PM, The New-York Historical Society presented Memories of Al Hirschfeld, a special event featuring Al Hirschfeld Foundation President Louise Kerz Hirschfeld, Robert Osborne of The Hollywood Reporter and Turner Classic Movies, legendary Broadway producer and director Harold Prince, and Frank Rich of New York Magazine in discussion about the life and legacy of Al HIrschfeld through his art, career, and personal relationships. 

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

Mickey Rooney, who spent nearly his entire life in the show business, died on Sunday at 93, after being in ill health for quite some time. Oscar nominee and Broadway actress Karen Black passed away yesterday, Thursday, August 8, at 74 after a two-year battle with cancer. Below, BroadwayWorld remembers the enigmatic stage and screen star.
