Musicals and plays based on movies? Many. Based on books? Also plentiful. Based on true stories? Of course. But musicals and plays based on or inspired by magazine articles? These are a rare breed. One recently opened on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre.

Dog Day Afternoon is about to open on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre. One of the people who has created that world is four-time Tony-nominated scenic designer David Korins, who with this play, celebrates his 27th Broadway show. David checked in with BroadwayWorld to talk all about bringing the iconic story to life on stage, and watching it all come together from an ocean away.

xFew crime stories have captured the public imagination quite like Dog Day Afternoon. What began as a shocking real-life bank robbery in the 1970s quickly evolved into one of the most celebrated crime dramas in film history—and now, decades later, the story has found new life on the Broadway stage. 

Recently, Michael’s production of the new play, Incitation of the Dance, opened at Theatre West. Its title Inspired by Gene Kelly's 1956 film; Invitation to the Dance, this dark comedy explores the complexities of older gay relationships—described by one critic as a 'gay gray play.' The production runs from February 27 to March 15. $10 off for tix bought in advance online.   It will be followed by a two-night engagement of My Uterus: A Womb with a View, written and performed by DINA MORRONE.  On  Mother's Day there will be a Theatre West cabaret concert of 30 years of Broadway hit show tunes for moms, dads, sibs and caretakers.  

September 5, the 2024 historical drama film, arrives to purchase or rent on Digital February 4, 2025 from Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film will arrive on Blu-ray™ February 18.

Fans of Agatha Christie's brilliant Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, can content themselves with the remaining three new episodes of David Suchet's career-capping portrayal, now being streamed by AcornTV. ELEPHANTS CAN REMEMBER, the 90 minute reworking of Christie's 1972 novel (here more successfully set in 1938), features Poirot and his irritating friend, crime write Ariadne Oliver (Zoe Wanamaker) in an adaptation that remains long on incredible plot (the chestnut of twins and unrecognized identity) but finds its success in nuanced, layered performances. This episode includes sufficient red herrings to divert the casual Christie viewer, but there are fewer superfluous characters. This tighter core of suspects renders the still-complex intersecting plotlines easier to follow and savor than some previous outings. SPOILER ALERT: Pay attention to Dr. Willoughby's research on twins as a key to the original murder, and to secretary Marie McDermott's bland disregard for St. Patrick in solving the second.
