On May 3rd, Studio 42 will present the Unproducible works of Meghan Deans - winner of the '13 Unproducible Smackdown (Ashore), Eric Dufault (Year of the Rooster), Brett Epstein - Fan Slam winner (I Loved Sam Stone), Leah Nanako Winkler (Death for Sydney Black), and Lauren Yee (Ching Chong Chinaman). Direction by Liz Carlson (The Playwrights Realm's Lottie in the Late Afternoon), Matt Dickson (INTAR's The Lowest Form of Writing), John Giampietro (EST's Year of the Rooster), and Jesse Jou (Rising Circle Theater Collectives's Say You Heard My Echo). The plays of the Smackdown are produced by Alyssa Anderson, Ying Le, Greg Nobile, Meghan Pressman, and Lico Whitfield.

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera, is pleased to announce the first round of recipients of its new program: Opera Grants for Female Composers, made possible through the generosity of The Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. From among the 112 eligible applicants, an independent adjudication panel selected eight composers. The recipients have each been awarded $12,500 to support the development of their compositions listed below.

Civic Theatre School (theatre by children, for children) will present 'Annie, Jr.' an adaptation of one of the world's best-loved and most-performed family musicals for four performances only, April 10-12 at Civic's historic Nineteenth Street Theatre. The cast of this production consists entirely of students from the Civic Theatre School. Tickets cost $18 for adults and $12 for students and children.

Marin Theatre Company artistic director Jasson Minadakis, managing director Michael Barker and director of new play development Margot Melcon announced today the winners of MTC's two national new American play prizes, a program now in its sixth year. The Way West by Mona Mansour won the 2013 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize and Eric Dufault won the 2013 David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize for his play The Year of the Rooster. The winners were selected from nearly 700 eligible submissions.

Year of the Rooster by a 25-year-old Youngblood playwright Eric Dufault, directed by John Giampietro and featuring Denny Dale Bess, Delphi Harrington, Thomas Lyons, Bobby Moreno, and Megan Tusing playing characters both human and/or animal, will return to the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street, Thursday, January 9, for a four-week run through February 2, Artistic Director William Carden announced.

No version of Annie is complete without the villainous Miss Hannigan and Rooster - the characters who stand between Annie and her future happiness. In this new production, they're played by real life husband and wife Louise Pitre and Joe Matheson - who are teaming up to sink their teeth into the despicable (yet very funny) duo. TONY and EMMY Award nominee Ron Raines returns to Broadway as Daddy Warbucks in the new Broadway production of ANNIE at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway between 46th and 47th Streets). He will begin performances on Tuesday, December 10. Australian superstar Anthony Warlow will play his final performance as Daddy Warbucks on Sunday, December 8.

October is Adopt-a-Dog month, and ANNIE on Broadway is celebrating by showing support for those who adopt shelter dogs. From October 15 through 31, at participating shelters around the city, individuals who adopt a dog from a participating shelter will receive a voucher for two tickets to see ANNIE in November, while supplies last. ANNIE has partnered with a select number of shelters and rescue groups in NYC, all of which are members of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, to participate. Participating shelters include The Humane Society of NY, New York Animal Care & Control, Animal Haven, Sean Casey Animal Rescue and Louie's Legacy. More shelters will be announced via social media.
