Utah Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Brian Vaughn recently announced a slate of eight highly-creative, talented, and experienced directors for the Festival's 2018 season. Many have directed at the Festival before, but some will be new to Festival audiences.

The Acting Company will honor playwright John Guare and film and theater producer/philanthropist Anne L. Producers announced today the first North American tour and full casting of the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of THE COLOR PURPLE. Performances will begin October 7, 2017 in Schenectady, New York at Proctors and the tour will have its official opening October 17, 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland at The Hippodrome Theatre. The Donmar Warehouse today announced full casting for Elinor Cook's new version of Ibsen's masterpiece The Lady from the Sea. As previously announced Nikki Amuka-Bird will play Ellida, and she is joined by Ellie Bamber, Jake Fairbrother, Jim Findley, Jonny Holden, Finbar Lynch, Tom McKay and Helena Wilson.

EgoPo Classic Theater celebrates its 25th Anniversary with the 2017-18 John Guare Festival. As the centerpiece of the season, the company is presenting the world premiere of Guare's Lydie Breeze Trilogy. This three-part American epic can be experienced in three ways: as a three-part series spread over three months, a three-night marathon, or a one-day (nine-hour) marathon with built in meal breaks. The performances of these modern American classics begin January 31, 2018 with Part I, and will run through May 6, 2018. All performances of the Lydie Breeze Trilogy will be held at Christ Church Neighborhood House, 20 N. American Street. National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects across the country in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $15,000 to Independent Shakespeare Co. to present the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival.

The 71st Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 11th at 8/9c hosted by Kevin Spacey. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize...

Rose Theatre Kingston today announces its autumn 2017 and spring 2018 season.

On Sunday, June 4 at 6 p.m., EgoPo will be hosting its Annual Gala on the Water to kick off the 2017-18 John Guare Festival Season, featuring the world premiere of Guare's Lydie Breeze Trilogy. Guests will enjoy a Nantucket-themed summer evening at Morgan's Pier on the Delaware River where there will be seafood, songs, sangria, and special guests.

Playwrights Horizons begins accepting entries today, Monday, May 8 at 12 Noon, for the LIVEforFIVE online lottery for $5 tickets to their world premiere production of BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE, a new musical with book, music and lyrics by Obie Award winner Kirsten Childs (The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin at Playwrights, Miracle Brothers).

Schimmel Center presents New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB) Uptown/Downtown/Dance at Schimmel Center, 3 Spruce Street, NYC, on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29, 2017 at 7:30pm and The Alice-in-Wonderland Follies! on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 3pm.

The Uptown/Downtown/Dance program will include an as-yet-untitled World Premiere from Martin Lawrance and the World Premiere of Painted Within by Zhong-Jing Fang, as well as a restaging of former NYTB resident choreographer Edward Henkel's ReVision, created in 1986, with music by Edvard Grieg, Holberg Suite op. 40 (1884). A 2013 NYTB commission, Short Memory by Pam Tanowitz, is set to live music by Lou Harrison and Henry Cowell and helps set up Ms. Tanowitz's brilliant use of stage space. The evenings include two more pieces by Ms. Tanowtiz: Light Moving, set to music by David Lang, and Double Andante, a 13-minute ballet for ten dancers set to the Andante movement of Beethoven's Sonata in D Major #15, which will be played live on piano two times at different tempos. Tickets are $29 and are available at SchimmelCenter.org.

McCarter Theatre Center closes the 2016-2017 Theater Series with a new production of Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage's Intimate Apparel, a story of an African-American seamstress living in 1905 New York City pursuing her dreams of love and independence. Directed by Jade King Carroll, Intimate Apparel will run from May 5 to June 4.
