Tangent Theatre Company, in co-production with AboutFACE Ireland, announce the selected plays to be featured in their 4th NEWvember New Plays Festival (Nov. 6-9) -- a showcase of original plays by promising playwrights to be read at the Carpenter Shop Theater, their 50-seat space in the center of Tivoli village.

One of the harder things for booksellers to admit is the number of acclaimed authors they haven't read. Sure, you can't read everything, but a book like Joseph O'Neill's Netherland (Vintage, $15.95), winner of the 2009 PEN/Faulkner Award, certainly blips on the radar. Last week, I enjoyed lunch at Ravenna Third Place Books in Seattle while O'Neill spoke to a small crowd of us readers about his new novel, The Dog (Pantheon, $25.95). Following the often comic adventures of an American called only by his initial, X, in the startling metropolis of Dubai, O'Neill's fourth novel landed on the longlist for the 2014 Man Booker Prize. It was about time I became acquainted with his work.

Karen Carpenter, a producer, director and teacher, a theater-maker for more than 30 years, has been appointed the interim Artistic Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts and the 34th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival. The Inge Festival is the Official Theater Festival of the State of Kansas, hosted on the campus of Independence Community College, which houses the William Inge archives.

Kansas City Ballet Artistic Director Devon Carney today announced the appointment of three new members of the artistic staff: Grace Holmes as the new Director of Kansas City Ballet School, Kristi Capps as the new Ballet Master and Anthony Krutzkamp as newly created position of Manager of KCB II. Carney also announced eleven new members of the Company, increasing the Company from 28 to 29 members for the 2014-2015 season. He also announced the appointment of four new KCB II dancers, which stands at six members. Carney also announced the creation of a Trainee Program with five students, two selected from Kansas City Ballet School.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF dares audiences to take a risk on new plays at PlayFest from November 1 - 3, 2014. Presented by Harriett's Charitable Trust, the fast-paced weekend is packed with lively discussions, engaging playwright panels, and new play readings, along with a keynote speech from playwright Mark St. Germain (Freud's Last Session and The Best of Enemies)?. This season's event marks the twelfth festival of new plays at the Theater. Tickets to individual PlayFest readings ($5) will be available to the general public on Tuesday, September 30. WAKE, written by New York-based Carey Crim, will have its west coast premiere presented by LA's critically acclaimed SeaGlass Theatre company today, April 26 through Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the beautiful Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena, CA, it was announced by Ovation nominated actor and SeaGlass Theatre Managing Director Paul Stroili, along with SeaGlass Artistic Director Kimberly Van Luin. WAKE'S five all-star member ensemble will feature Nancy Berggren, Alison Blanchard, Michael Connors, Allie Costa, and Lauren McCormack. Matt Kirkwood has been set to direct.

Tangent Theatre Company, based in their intimate Carpenter Shop Theater in Tivoli's village center, is preparing for their Spring 2014 production: a four-week run of the searching, dark comedy The Vandal by Hamish Linklater (tonight, March 6 - 30, 2014).

Last night at Opening Night of Carson Kreitzer's Lasso of Truth, Marin Theatre Company's artistic director Jasson Minadakis and managing director Michael Barker announced the company's 2014-15 season programming today. Featuring six new plays by living contemporary playwrights in MTC's intimate 231-seat mainstage Boyer Theatre, the season includes:

Greyman Theatre Company's inaugural New York production begins performances tonight, Feb. 27 at The Tank and continues its limited engagement through March 9.
