Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre's 49th season cedes the floor to modern-day griots with gripping, one-person tales capturing the trauma and triumph of a people. In a nod to the African tradition of the storyteller and historian who inspires and uplifts, the season is anchored by two one-person shows, The Peculiar Patriot, by Liza Jessie Peterson, a coproduction with Hi-ARTS, and Sancho by Paterson Joseph, a coproduction with Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) and Pemberley Productions. Themed "Black to the Future," the 49th season-which includes workshop productions by resident playwrights-seeks to take stock of the present and look to the past to predict and help shape a brighter future for Black people.

The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center of Palo Alto proudly presents the stellar line-up for its Fall 2017-2018 Arts & Dialogues series, featuring world-renowned musicians, artists, and a host of fascinating thinkers, doers, and innovators. Beginning in September and continuing through December, the OFJCC will host spectacular performances from globally acclaimed instrumentalists such as Israeli cellist Amit Peled and Yeshiva University's The Maccabeats a cappella phenomena. Directed by Charles Newell, artistic director of Court Theatre, and translated by Nicholas Rudall, founding artistic director of Court Theatre, Iphigenia in Aulis was first presented in 2014 at Court Theatre in Chicago and will be reimagined for the Getty's production.

The Merola Opera Program launches its 60th Anniversary season on Sunday, June 11 with a Benefit Gala at City Hall and a concert immediately following at Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, featuring some of the acclaimed Merola program's most illustrious participants. In 2000, she received a Grammy nomination for The Diaries of Adam and Eve. In 2002, she was Grammy nominated for her album Stars and the Moon: Live at the Donmar.
