BWW Review: MAINLY MOZART at The Balboa Theater
by Ron Bierman - Jun 13, 2018

Every year since 1989 Mainly Mozart has been bringing many of the best orchestra musicians in the country to San Diego to perform a month-long series of concerts ranging from solo recitals to orchestral. When Michael Francis succeeded founding music director and conductor David Atherton in 2015 he reemphasized the organization's name by planning a six-year chronological traversal of Mozart's music. The first-year featured Mozart as prodigy. This year, the third, Mozart is a 'rebel' breaking ranks with the music establishment and the control of his father Leopold. (more...)

In the history of musical theater certain shows have had their place in time while others seem to transcend lifetimes. BWW Review: The Jungle Theater's Regional Premiere of the Broadway Hit HAND TO GOD is Hilarious, Shocking, and Not a Little Sad
by Jill Schafer - Jul 28, 2018

HAND TO GOD is a little like AVENUE Q, but with less singing, more frequent cursing, and more graphic simulated puppet sex. The 2015 Tony nominee for best play is having its regional premiere in a fantastic production at Jungle Theater, and if you don't mind being a little uncomfortable at the theater (you shouldn't, it's good for you), it's well worth braving the construction, traffic, and parking headaches that come with a trip to Uptown to see this funny, irreverent, and sad little play. (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Jan 31, 2019

Ages and Ages are announcing Me You They We, the follow to their critically acclaimed 2016 release Something to Ruin, today with the 'bouncy but slightly macabre' 'Just My Luck' at Paste Magazine. Me You They We is a statement of purpose that also served as a respite, a kind of musical group therapy, for the principle songwriters Rob Oberdorf and Tim Perry who got together twice a week, along with drummer and co-producer Evan Railton, to cope with the daily onslaught of atrocities by writing through it. Ages and Ages continue with their offbeat take on indie-pop in ebbs and flows of optimism and pessimism but never falling into cynicism. (more...)

Guest Blog: Playwright Martin Askew On THERE IS A FIELD
by BWW News Desk - Feb 19, 2019
