September brings us the start of a new school year, the start of fall, and the start of the local theatre season. Little Theatre of Virginia Beach welcomes audiences to their 74th season with 'Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery.'

Westport Country Playhouse has selected two HD videos from its archives of performances captured live on stage for streaming on demand. The Playhouse’s 2018 production of “Man of La Mancha,” the Tony Award-winning musical following Don Quixote’s quest for “The Impossible Dream,” will stream on-demand from Monday, August 23-Sunday, September 5.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has announced their Spring season of digital offerings from April 1 to July 1, which is dedicated to the late Gustave M. Hauser.  CMS presents 28 digital programs, with concerts premiering on Thursday evenings at 7:30 and educational and hybrid talk-and-performance programs premiering on Monday evenings.

The Joanne and Ted Lindsay Foundation Autism Outreach Services (OUCARES) and the Oakland University Department of Theatre will present a virtual, staged reading of The Marriage Spectrum at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 on YouTube.

Gary Morgenstein's drama Saving Stan, a love story about passion friendship and suicide, will kick off the new Survival is Insufficient Zoom Theater reading series on Tuesday, October 6 at 7PM.

Mezzo Joyce DiDonato set a new standard for the Met’s Live concert series (hosted by Christine Goerke) with a gorgeous recital from the Jahrhunderthalle in Germany that was broadcast live on September 12 and will be available on demand through the Met’s website, now extended through October 23.

There is no one in the tri-state region with more live theater experience than Bob Kelly, Artistic Director at Candlelight Dinner Theatre. CMS'sa??50th anniversarya??seasona??will welcome spring with programs that look back and look forward.  On April 3, Mozart's groundbreakinga??Piano Quartet in G minor, composed by the genius who invented the piano-violin-viola-cello quartet, shows how this new combination of instruments gave an opportunity for expressiveness that would become more pronounced in the Romantic age.  The piece is combined with a piano quartet and a quintet that follow in the next hundred years a?" one by Mendelssohn and one by Strauss. 

Ken Ludwig's Baskerville - A Sherlock Holmes Mystery is without question the most brilliantly funny adaptations of one of Holmes' most famous cases. Since it was first published in the Strand Magazine between August 1901 and April 1902, The Hound of the Baskerville has become possibly the most well known case of the crime fighting duo, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. In Ludwig's version, as Holmes and Watson work to solve the case, only three other actors play all 43 other roles in the play; more often than not, changing those characters in a split second right before your very eyes. That's right. Ludwig wrote the show to only have five people in the cast!

Aurora's award-winning Paramount Theatre - the second largest subscription house in the U.S. - announced today the four blockbuster musicals on tap for its 10th anniversary season in 2020-2021:

By the late 19th century, the American food supply was rife with frauds, fakes, and legions of untested and often deadly chemicals that threatened the health of consumers. The Poison Squad, based on the acclaimed book by Deborah Blum, tells the story of a little known government chemist named Dr. Harvey Wiley, who, determined to banish these dangerous substances from the American diet, took on the powerful food manufacturers and their allies in government. To demonstrate the peril lurking in these ubiquitous chemicals — from copper sulfate to borax to formaldehyde — Wiley embarked upon a series of bold and controversial trials on human subjects — a dozen brave young men who would become known as the “Poison Squad.” Following Wiley's unusual experiments and tireless crusade for food safety, the film charts the path of the forgotten man whose work would become the basis for our consumer protection laws, and ultimately the creation of the FDA. Written, directed and produced by John Maggio and executive produced by Mark Samels and Susan Bellows, The Poison Squad premieres Tuesday, January 28, 2020, 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on AMERICAN EXPERIENCE on PBS, PBS.org and the PBS Video App.

For its introductory year, Rave Theater Festival has selected a diverse roster of plays, musicals, family-friendly shows, and cross-disciplinary projects.

The story of The Wizard of Oz has been told numerous times in many different ways. Originally a book written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum with the first Broadway musical adaption coming in 1902. Of course the most popular version is the 1939 musical film adaption starring Judy Garland as Dorothy. For the 60th anniversary of the film release the Gooseberry Park Players decided to bring the story to their stage. Most people know the story, but this version may offer some new scenes not seen by many before, including the 'Jitterbug' song/scene that was actually cut from the original movie due to time constraints.

The story of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" has gone through many incarnations over the years: An American fairytale, a Broadway extravaganza, one of the first technicolor MGM movie musicals, and the 1989 West End holiday musical. Now, complete with dancing Munchkins and flying monkeys, Sierra Rep is delighted to present The Wizard of Oz this summer at the Historic Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Park. The book is by John Kane, music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. It has additional background music by Herbert Stothart. It is based on the novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum and the 1939 film version written by Noel Langley, Florence Ryerson and Edgar Allan Woolf. This production will be co-directed by Scott Viets and Jerry Lee, who previously teamed up for Holiday Jukebox and The Robber Bridegroom. The production sponsor is DSN Outdoor.

Theater J, the nation's largest and most prominent Jewish theater, continues its signature Yiddish Theater Lab with readings of two plays in May. The plays are The Rented Bridegroom by Rinne Groff (adapted from a play by Osip Dymov) on May 6 at Foundry Church and Yankl the Blacksmith by David Pinski on May 20 at the Goethe-Institut. These readings follow the first full production of the Yiddish Theater Lab,

The Adelaide Fringe is getting classy this year, with Hartstone-Kitney Productions brining seven incredible shows to the Noel Lothian Hall. They are once again transforming the Noel Lothian Hall into a bespoke black box theatre, and are introducing a Rose Garden Bar, turning the already unique garden location into an elegant oasis amongst the East End chaos.

A co-production of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, Gran Teatre del Liceu - Barcelona, Wiener Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera and L'Opera National de Paris conducted by Gianandrea Noseda and directed by Sir David McVicar, who ingeniously sets the action in a working replica of a Baroque theatre.
