The third annual Sheen Center Theater Festival takes place June 20 - 23 at  The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture (18 Bleecker Street, at the corner of Elizabeth Street, NYC). New York City Opera General Director Michael Capasso today announced the 2016-17 season of City Opera, a full season of new productions, concerts, and presentations for the "people's opera." New York City Opera will offer five operas (including a double bill) at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater; two chamber operas, including a Spanish baroque work at Harlem Stage as part of its O?pera en Espan?ol series, and New York City Opera Concerts at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. New York City Opera Orchestra will be featured in every opera and concert.

Acclaimed classical actor Kathryn Hunter received the Samuel H. Scripps Award for Extraordinary Commitment to Promoting the Power of Language in Classical and Contemporary Theatre at Theatre for a New Audience's Spring Gala Celebrating Shakespeare's 452nd Birthday, last night at Capitale on the Lower East Side.

Malcolm Sinclair (Capt. Andy Hawks) and Chris Peluso (Gaylord Ravenal) will join original Sheffield cast members Gina Beck (Magnolia Hawks), Lucy Briers (Parthy Ann Hawks), Rebecca Trehearn (Julia La Verne), Emmanuel Kojo(Joe), Sandra Marvin (Queenie), Alex Young (Ellie May Chipley) and Danny Collins (Frank Schultz) in the West End cast of Daniel Evans' five star production of Show Boat.

Sex Today, Love Tomorrow with book and lyrics by Israela Margalit, music by Oran Eldor and directed by Obie Award winner John Clancy, with musical direction by Dan Green, will get an invite-only industry reading on Monday, November 10 at Ripley Grier Studios.

Roller coaster fanatics from around the world have a new reason to visit Luna Park in Coney Island this year. This Memorial Day Weekend, the amusement venture will be welcoming its first-ever vertical lift steel roller coaster, The Thunderbolt, to its lineup of joy rides. The new coaster will sit where the original wooden Thunderbolt thrilled riders from the 1920's through the 1980's, and will be the first roller coaster in the area since 1910 to send riders upside-down in a vertical loop. This will be Coney Island's first custom roller coaster since 1927, the year the Cyclone Roller Coaster was built.
