IFC Center today announced an impressive and wide-ranging lineup for the third annual Split Screens Festival (www.splitscreensfestival.com) taking place Wednesday, May 29 through Monday, June 3, 2019, at the IFC Center in New York City. The festival consists of special events offering a variety of looks at history, identity and the mystery of existence itself, including panels on series that explore dystopian realities and alternate timelines, and screenings that transport us into any number of time periods and places, be it a late-1800s South Dakota town or the height of 1980s ballroom culture in New York City.

To celebrate the release of beloved songwriter, guitarist and singer JJ Cale's Stay Around, Because Music will release an exclusive 7' vinyl for Record Store Day on April 13. The B-side features “Worrying Off Your Mind,” a bonus track from 2009's Roll On.

Curio Theatre Company closes its season out with a classic work by William Shakespeare and a trial of a new ticketing initiative. The 2018-2019 will close with a new production of William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. This story of forgiveness, folly, and redemption will start previews April 24. It will open Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m. Industry Night is Monday April 29 at 8 p.m. There is a matinee Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m. With this show, Curio wanted to look at ways to provide quality theatre programming at a fraction of a cost to the community. The company has introduced CuriosiTix: PLAY It Forward. With this initiative, Curio hopes to welcome new audience members that may have shied away from theatre previously due to financial constraints thereby creating a patron base that represents the evolving neighborhood of West Philadelphia. David Mirvish in a co-production with the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre presents A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 by Lucas Hnath. Starring four outstanding Canadian actors and directed by Krista Jackson, this brilliant and audacious play is performed March 23 to April 14, 2019 at Toronto's CAA Theatre as part of the Off-Mirvish Season. 

The Guthrie Theater (Joseph Haj, artistic director) today announced the nine productions of its 2019 2020 subscription season: Tennessee Williams' classic family drama The Glass Menagerie; Shakespeare's rollicking comedy Twelfth Night; an adaptation of Emma based on the Jane Austen novel; and Kander and Ebb's musical Cabaret will grace the Guthrie's signature Wurtele Thrust Stage while the McGuire Proscenium Stage's lineup will include Robert Harling's female-driven comedy Steel Magnolias; the regional premiere of Noura, Heather Raffo's complex tale of identity; Anne Bogart's acclaimed production of Euripides' The Bacchae; Karen Zacar as' comedic telenovela Destiny of Desire; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning Sweat.

The disappointment was palpable when midway through the 2015-16 season it became clear that the world premiere of Frankenstein would not go ahead as planned because the set and the special effects were too exacting technically for the temporary infrastructure at Tour & Taxis. Partly because of the many film adaptations, Mary Shelley's modern myth about an idealistic, but arrogant scientist and his 'Creature' still clearly fires the collective imagination, and the expectations of Mark Grey's opera of the same name were running high. However, three seasons later La Monnaie is now more than ready to bring this production to life. All eyes are on the Polish-Lebanese conductor Bassem Akiki and the Spanish director lex Oll .

Broadway In Chicago today announced their plans to honor the late James M. Nederlander, the legendary Broadway theatre owner and producer, patriarch of Broadway and champion of Chicago's Downtown Theatre District, by renaming the Oriental Theatre as the JAMES M. NEDERLANDER THEATRE. 

Based on Ron Chernow's 2004 biographical novel titled Alexander Hamilton, the musical, Hamilton, tells the true story of one of America's Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton. An immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation's first Treasury Secretary.

Never before have audiences responded with such startling enthusiasm and thunderous applause to a Nashville Repertory Theatre opening night - at least in my memory and I've been reviewing shows at the Rep for 30 years now - than what I witnessed last night as Avenue Q kicked off the company's 2018-19 season in astonishingly irreverent style. Theater historians would have a hard time finding a production in which Nashville Rep audiences had a better time celebrating diversity and internet porn while watching two puppets have unbridled and unrestrained sex even if they lack some of the parts necessary to consummate the act.

From October 6 to 27 at the Upper East Side's Bohemian National Hall and Jan Hus Church, GOH Productions will present a Centennial Heritage Festival, featuring mainstage marionette theater productions for adults and kids and musical concerts for audiences of all ages. As BroadwayWorld has sadly reported, legendary playwright Neil Simon has died at 91. He passed away last night at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City due to complications from pneumonia. Beginning April 14, Mile Square Theatre presents public performances of its revival production of Y York's The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi. Restaging its 2011 production for a new audience, MST is thrilled to reunite much of the creative team from the earlier production, including MST Artistic Director Chris O'Connor and actor Blaire Brooks (Bull, Blacklist) as Darzee the Tailor Bird. The cast includes MST regular Andrew Baldwin (Frog and Toad), Cameron Blankenship (Lyric Rep), and Arielle Legere (Princess K.I.M.).

Due to demand, The New Group has announced a three-week extension for Jerry Springer - The Opera, with Matt McGrath appearing as Jerry Springer beginning March 13.  Terrence Mann, currently appearing in the role of Jerry Springer, plays his final performance March 11 due to an existing commitment beyond that date.
