The Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) today released the list of special programs for Open House Chicago 2019a?"now in its ninth year and one of the largest architecture festivals in the world. This free two-day public event, taking place Saturday-Sunday, October 19-20, offers behind-the-scenes access to almost 350 sites in 38 neighborhoods, many rarely open to the public, including repurposed mansions, stunning skyscrapers, opulent theaters, exclusive private clubs, industrial facilities, cutting-edge offices and breathtaking sacred spaces. In addition to free access, Open House Chicago offers activities at various sites all weekend long, including cultural performances, kid-friendly activities, and more.

Tupelo Community Theatre will present an interactive, audience participation showing of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show on October 31st at 8 p.m. at TCT Off Broadway at 213 East Franklin Street.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival today announced it has entered into a 25-year lease on a new housing development two blocks from its main theatre campus in downtown Ashland. Plaza East, to be built and owned by Adroit Construction and Mahar Homes, located at 189 &199 Lithia Way, will include 34 residential units, with more than 6,000 square feet of commercial space suitable for offices or other uses. A groundbreaking ceremony takes place on Thursday, October 10 at 12:30 p.m.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), the professional North Fulton theatre company, continues its 27th season this October-November with Night Must Fall, a chilling experience just in time for the spooky season of the year. The production will be directed by Shannon Eubanks and run October 24th through November 10th, 2019, at the company's home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.

The Canadian Donald Sutherland will be honoured with a Donostia Award recognising his more than fifty years of excellent performances. The actor, who has participated in almost 200 productions, will attend the 67th edition of the San Sebastian Festival on Thursday 26 September to receive the accolade prior to the screening in the Kursaal of The Burnt Orange Heresy, a thriller directed by Giuseppe Capotondi. The film, with a cast featuring Mick Jagger, Claes Bang and Elizabeth Debicki will close the coming edition of the Venice Festival.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 50th Anniversary Season with the Olivier Award-winning comedy The 39 Steps. This hilarious, high-speed spoof of Alfred Hitchcock's silver-screen classic hurtles a notorious fugitive and a breathtaking blonde from a London music hall to Scotland's most remote highlands crawling with devious spies.

Ted Sperling, Artistic Director of MasterVoices, announced details of the acclaimed ensemble's 78th season, celebrating the joy of choral singing and the power of the human voice to unite, inspire and connect since 1941. Highlights include three major musical presentations at top venues, including a New York premiere, and the World Premiere of a new work, commissioned by the Company. Throughout the season there will be collaborations with leading singers, artists, ensembles and organizations, some who are familiar with and others who are new to the Company.

On Sunday, August 11th, Hollywood insider, Donelle Dadigan, and respected actress, Lee Purcell, hosted and invitation only screening of the documentary - THE MAX FACTOR.  The film takes a look behind the scenes into the star studded and astounding life of the inventor, pioneer and Hollywood' legendary King of Make-up.  The screening was followed by Q&A with the hosts and Filmmakers Clara and Julia Kuperberg and was moderated by film historian and critic, Leonard Maltin, who remarked 'The Max Factor Building is a true Hollywood treasure. I'm always happy to spend time there celebrating its history.' 

Gretna Theatre will celebrate local Veterans with The USO Show Troupe's American Heartland Tribute, August 22-25 at The Mount Gretna Playhouse. The famous military performance troupe is best known for performing around the world for service members and their families over the past 70 years. 'With Gretna's unique ties to military history, we decided it was time to bring them directly into our own home as a gift to the substantial veteran population in Lebanon,' says Brian Kurtas, Executive Producer for Gretna Theatre.

The soul-stirring sound of tango in its most authentic form comes to The Soraya, brought directly to Los Angeles by Laura Escalada Piazzolla, the wife of the late maestro Astor Piazzolla, on Thursday, October 3 at 8pm. 

On September 8th at 3 pm at the Center for Jewish History, the celebrated storyteller sits down with another notable New Yorker and his former New York Postcolleague: Bronx native and acclaimed New York Times reporter Clyde Haberman.

According to the director and members of the cast of Adobe Theatre's production of Shakespeare in Hollywood, it has been a labor of love bringing the show to the stage; a wonderful experience where the cast had a great time getting to know one another and become friends, as well as a chance for the audience to leave the theatre with a more interest in Shakespeare and the history surrounding the 1935 movie of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

BWW Review: SHAKESPEARE IN HOLLYWOOD at Adobe Theater

If there's one thing that summer theater should be, it's fun, and Gloucester Stage Company's production of THE 39 STEPS happily fulfills the requirement. Actually, it is more than fun - it is laugh out loud funny, thanks to the witty script, the crisp direction by Artistic Director Robert Walsh, and the antics and split-second comic timing of a quartet of actors who play over 150 characters without going off the rails. Joining them on stage is Malachi Rosen, a Foley Artist who produces a litany of sound effects, allowing the audience to see and hear how every door slam, train whistle, and gun shot happens. The 1935 film was a classic Alfred Hitchcock thriller, but the stage adaptation by Patrick Barlow heaps large helpings of farce and satire atop the story, while maintaining a high level of suspense.
