THE SANTALAND DIARIES, based on the essay of the same name by David Sedaris, tells the story of his working as an elf at Macy's Santaland in the early 1990's. Those who are familiar with Sedaris's writing can imagine the witty and wry observations he took away from such an experience, but like all his work, there is a bit of heart as well. This play has been performed at the Gamm three times in the last ten years, but despite the fact that the actor (Steve Kidd) in this one man show never changes, the sets and script are slightly different each time. This time, the set is far more expansive than the 2009 production, but still manages to feel intimate, in part due to Kidd's excellent use of the space physically, and delightful sets and Christmas decorations that make the audience feel like they are in Santaland. The script is showing its age a bit (the essay was originally read on NPR in 1992), but it's still thoroughly entertaining, and Steve Kidd manages to keep his performance high energy and fresh.

Contemporary Icelandic playwright Hrafnhildur Hagalin revisits this infamous case with 'Guilty' (2014), a verse play that gracefully and provocatively examines issues of obsession and mercy which cling to it to this day.

Roundabout Theatre Company will conclude its new Broadway production of Arthur Miller's The Price, directed by Steppenwolf Theatre Company co-founder, Terry Kinney, on Sunday, May 14.

For two glittering weekends at the end of May, the world turns its attention to the movie event of the year: TheCaan Film Festival at Museum of the Moving Image. In celebration of the Bronx-born, Sunnyside-raised, and Sanford Meisner-instructed actor, the film series revisits twelve of James Caan's greatest performances, from May 19 through 28, with nearly all films presented in 35mm. The International Festival of Arts & Ideas today announced complete details for Festival 2017, which will begin on June 3 and continues for three weeks through June 24 in New Haven, Connecticut. 

After some 2,200 performances as the legendary Bob Crewe in the Broadway company of Jersey Boys, Jonathan Hadley is more than happy - maybe even contented - to update his resume with the words "journeyman actor," as he adds the role of Sy Spector in The Bodyguard to the list of roles for which he is justifiably well-known.

Labyrinth Theater Company presents the world premiere of the witty and socially poignant production of Dolphins and Sharks by upcoming playwright James Anthony Tyler. The production, which marks Tyler's professional debut, is scheduled for February 9 - March 19 and is directed by Charlotte Brathwaite.
