The Ailey organization is launching a Young New York program in conjunction with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's annual holiday season at New York City Center (November 30 - December 31).

Museum of the Moving Image will present the most comprehensive U.S. retrospective of all of the Polish director's features, short films, early documentary work, and a marathon viewing of the Dekalog, from October 7 through November 6, 2016. The series will also include four posthumous works based on Kieslowski's unproduced screenplays.

This 2016-2017 season, eight professional theatre companies at the core of the local indie scene, satisfy a vast range of tastes and interests with stories that stimulate imagination, understanding, discussion and change. English-speaking audiences can become acquainted with French playwrights or young students can take their first step in a life-long appreciation of theatre. Homegrown plays, lauded nationally and abroad, are presented by some companies while others play cultural ambassadors and tour their offerings inside and outside the province. Fact-based productions bring Canadian history to vivid life or delve into stories of other countries and cultures. Theatre-goers will experience characters' challenges and triumphs, embark on spiritual, emotional and historical journeys, see life through the eyes of the disenfranchised and the persecuted, or explore issues of sexuality, freedom, and power. The Menier Chocolate Factory today announces the full company for a major new revival of Tom Stoppard's TRAVESTIES - the first London revival in over 20 years. Patrick Marber directs Clare Foster (Cecily), Freddie Fox (Tristan Tzara), Tom Hollander (Henry Carr), Forbes Masson (Lenin), Peter McDonald (James Joyce), Amy Morgan (Gwendolen), Sarah Quist (Nadya) and Tim Wallers (Bennett). The production - which opens on 4 October, with previews from 22 September and runs until 19 November - is now completely sold out, breaking Menier box office records by becoming the first play to sell out ahead of its opening in the theatre's history.

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announced its 2016-17 grant recipients, including the 2016 Smith Prize for Political Theatre, four Producer Residencies, and four Collaboration Fund awards that will support partnerships between multiple Member Theaters, playwrights, and other theater makers in various projects.

Just announced, the official launch night of the month-long WOMEN AND WAR festival will feature a one-off performance of SEVEN, a documentary play about seven ordinary women who became extraordinary activists, starring Rula Lenska, Miriam Margolyes and Josie Lawrence.

Women and War is a month long festival examining the effect of warfare on women worldwide.

The Steppenwolf saga gets a new treatment in the world premiere of Steppenwolf - a musical retelling. Written and composed by 21-year-old Dutch protege Jochem le Cointre (class of 2016), The first ever staged adaptation of Hermann Hesse's classic novel, originally published in Germany in 1928, the show features a 15-piece chamber orchestra; an ensemble of students from The New School's College of Performing Arts; a cast of New York City actors and singers, including several from The New School's Mannes School of Music, School of Drama, and Lang Theater; and dancers from the renowned Martha Graham Dance Company. Choreography is by Tadej Brdnik, the former principal dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company. Two performances will be staged on May 11 & May 12, 2016 at 7pm at The Auditorium at The New School, 66 West 12th Street, New York, NY 10011.  Tickets are free (first come, first seated) and can be reserved by visiting EventBrite.

  Grammy Award-winning pianist Emanuel Ax returns to Carnegie Hall for four performances this spring, first joining celebrated violinist Pamela Frank for a program of Mozart violin sonatas on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall.
