The Child of a Samurai Warrior Seeking to Avenge Her Father's Murder Makes for a Compelling Coming-of-Age Tale In JL Snyder's new Coming of Age novel, 'Battle Cry 2 Shadow of the Sword,' protagonist Kaí-Ling uses the skills, training, and knowledge she acquired in the first volume to seek vengeance for her father's murder. JL Snyder, whose writing has been touted by reviews as 'brilliant' and 'engrossing' has released the second installment in the Battle Cry series, Battle Cry 2 Shadow of the Sword, in which he continues the story of Kaí-Ling, a young girl whose purpose is to avenge her father's death. Her father, who was once a samurai warrior was murdered, leaving Kaí-Ling to be raised by her mother and then her uncle Nobu, who taught her the art of fighting. Battle Cry 2 resumes the story in the autumn of 1867, somewhere between California and Texas, where Kaí-Ling is fulfilling her destiny. Along the way, she handles many new challenges and encounters pitfalls that test her skills and her will. While this may seem like a familiar formula, Snyder brings his own style and voice to the genre. One reviewer explained, 'His treatment of the tried-and-true formula of 'hero/heroine comes of age' is salvaged from being monotonous or typical by his engaging protagonist and entertaining format.' The book also features illustrations and graphics, which bring the story to life. One Amazon reviewer said that the illustrations 'take you back to your own childhood and remind you of the various comic books and cartoon series that you used to devour, the ones that used to visualize every sound effect in writing to maximize the effect.' For teenagers, young adult, and adult readers alike, Battle Cry 2 delivers as a second novel.

The secret to success at Verge Theater for the last two decades? Know the audience! And the beauty of their audiences is that they are interested in swinging many ways: Contemporary theatre, modern theatre, locally-written theatre, puppet theater, improv, comedies, dramas, fringe shows, musicals! So we respond with the battle cry: Diversity Is Our Mainstay! Sometimes they die on our sword, but most times the audience rewards them with what matters most, their time, attention, and respect Not to mention laughs! They never turn down laughs!! So in December, they're aiming for variety.
