Seven-time Grammy winner Toni Braxton will be taking her “As Long As I Live” tour on the road in support of her current “Sex & Cigarettes” album.  The tour begins on January 19 in Columbia, SC and will make a stop at Newark, New Jersey's Prudential Center on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 8 p.m. Special guests for this concert will be SWV, known for their string of top R&B hits selling more than 15 million albums and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds' award–winning, multi-faceted performer, writer and producer credited for of such megastars as TLC, OutKast, Usher, and Toni Braxton. Toni's “Sex & Cigarettes” album entered the charts in the Top 5 and the “As Long As I Live” single was #1 on the charts for nine weeks. Joined by Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist Richard Hirschl, New Philharmonic, will perform two concerts featuring works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. The concerts, conducted by Maestro Kirk Muspratt, will be held at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd.; Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. A free MAC Chat will precede each concert.   The concert program is as follows:

This fall the Czech Philharmonic embarks on an 11-concert tour of the U.S. led by the Orchestra's Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov, who was appointed in October 2017 following the unanimous invitation of the Orchestra's musicians. The first two concerts of the tour are in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, marking the official beginning of Bychkov's tenure and showcasing the rich musical history and artistic influence of the Czech Republic.

Jim Messina's legacy spans five decades and three acclaimed rock super groups: Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield, and Poco. And he's had a vibrant solo career, plus a dizzying array of producing and engineering credits for such luminaries as The Doors, Joni Mitchell, and Herb Alpert. Performing with his band in Folsom, the concert will include songs we all know and love, from across his storied career. As part of the "Ailey Ascending" 60th Anniversary celebration, the Choreography Unlocked Festival of performance, conversation, and master classes will take place at Ailey's home across two weekends - October 12 - 14 & 26- 28. Building on the success of the New Directions Choreography Lab, created by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Robert Battle in 2011, the festival will elevate The Joan Weill Center for Dance's role in the community as a hub for creating and presenting new work and fostering the next generation of choreographers.  

The Paul Taylor Dance Foundation announced the death yesterday of legendary choreographer Paul Taylor in Manhattan on August 29.

Ivan Reitman, who directed and produced some of the most iconic films of the past four decades, including the mega-hits Ghostbusters, Animal House, Stripes, and Dave, will make his first Wizard World appearance in special sessions on Saturday, August 25 at Wizard World Comic Con Chicago at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. Reitman, whose dozens of blockbuster credits also include National Lampoon's Animal House, Stripes, Kindergarten Cop, Space Jam, Heavy Metal, Old School, Road Trip, Disturbia, Up in the Air and many others, will sign free autographs for fans during his Wizard World Comic Con Chicago visit, pose for photo ops and conduct an interactive Q&A with Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson.

The 3rd annual Hip Hop Film Festival was held, fittingly, at the historic National Black Theatre founded by Dr. Barbara Ann Teer who moved to Harlem in 1968 and saw that the once vibrant neighborhood was suffering from a sense of hopelessness after the losses of African American leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X and desperately needed a community space and cultural arts institution that would 'be reflective of the power, grace and excellence of a people' (according to her daughter and current CEO Sade Lythcott).

The French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural institution, today announced Crossing The Line Festival 2018, featuring leading international artists in a wide-ranging program of events, performances, and exhibitions from September 18 to October 13, 2018. When Alvin Ailey and a small group of African-American modern dancers first took the stage in 1958, appearing at New York City's 92nd Street Y, the engagement was for one night only—but it turned out to be the start of a new era in the performing arts. Mr. Ailey became one of the groundbreaking greats in African American history, while the work of his Company grew beyond the limits of the stage to encompass education at all levels, community outreach and cultural diplomacy. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater now embodies six decades of achievement, celebrating the human spirit with performances that unite and inspire all.

The Herberger Theater Center (HTC) and Arizona Broadway Theatre (ABT) - a Resident Company at the Herberger Theater Center - continue their successful co-presenting partnership with the launch of the 'Broadway at The Herberger ' series to be presented at HTC during the 2018-2019 season.

The 2018 Toronto Fringe Festival boasts the highest ever ticket revenue, smashing the new records set during the 2017 festival. 66,301 tickets were issued to theatre-loving patrons over the 12-day festival. As Fringe returns 100% of net box office revenue, this means that $531,293.50 is going straight into the pockets of the artists. Ticket prices were raised this year from $10 + services fees to $11 + service fees, which contributed to the increase in revenue.

Tyler Micoleau wanders among the cast portraits at Maine State Music Theatre's 22 Elm Street offices and studios, murmuring in quiet amazement, as he surveys the years with their colorful productions leading up to the present. He wonders aloud about how is it possible to mount such large-scale productions on the Pickard stage? For the Tony award-winning lighting designer of The Band's Visit, this is a special homecoming for it was in Brunswick at Bowdoin College and Maine State Music Theatre that his theatre career began.

On July 1, 1968, The Band's landmark debut album, Music from Big Pink, seemed to spring from nowhere and everywhere. Drawing from the American roots music panoply of country, blues, R&B, gospel, soul, rockabilly, the honking tenor sax tradition, hymns, funeral dirges, brass band music, folk, and rock 'n' roll, The Band forged a timeless new style that forever changed the course of popular music. Fifty years later, the mythology surrounding Music from Big Pink lives on through the evocative storytelling of its songs including 'The Weight,' 'This Wheel's On Fire,' 'Tears of Rage,' and 'To Kingdom Come,' its enigmatic cover art painted by Bob Dylan, the salmon-colored upstate New York house - 'Big Pink' - where The Band wrote the songs, and in myriad descendant legends carried forth since the album's stunning arrival.

The program has been revised and will now feature: A New York premiere and a repertoire favorite by house choreographers Sol Leon and Paul Lightfoot, and American premieres by associate choreographer Marco Goecke and Edward Clug.

Ma-Yi Theater Company, in association with The Public Theater, is pleased to announce a two-week extension of TEENAGE DICK. The world premiere play by Mike Lew will now play through Sunday, July 29, 2018. (It was previously announced to close on Sunday, July 15).

One of the most important theatre festivals in the country, the TORONTO FRINGE FESTIVAL celebrates 30 years this summer. In honour of this major landmark for Canadian theatre, the Festival will feature a stellar line up of shows by many of Canada's hottest theatre artists, a throwback to some of the world's most important theatre productions with the #STARTEDATTHEFRINGE campaign, and a new creative pop-up patio called POSTSCRIPT in the Scadding Court hockey rink, where all events are free and open to the public. The TORONTO FRINGE takes place July 4 - July 15, 2018 with 159 shows at 43 venues presented across the city.

The program will feature three works: American and New York premieres by house choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, and an American premiere by associate choreographer Marco Goecke.

Wiltshire Creative - the new organisation that brings together Salisbury Arts Centre, Salisbury International Arts Festival and Salisbury Playhouse - today announces its first season of programming for 2018/19, marking a landmark moment for the arts in Salisbury and the South of England.

When Houston Grand Opera (HGO) opened its first season in Houston's new opera house at the Wortham Theater Center in 1987, world-renowned tenor Placido Domingo starred in Verdi's Aida. Now, just over 30 years later, Domingo will again take the Wortham stage on September 26 for HGO and Placido-Coming Home!, a gala evening celebrating the company's return to its creative home after a year of displacement following Hurricane Harvey. Joined by beloved Houston soprano Ana Maria Martinez and the HGO Orchestra conducted by HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers, Domingo will perform an evening of operatic and popular musical favorites. The concert, which begins at 7 p.m., will be followed by a celebration dinner in the Ballroom at Bayou Place.

Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Long Day's Journey Into Night  comes to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts for a limited three-week engagement from Friday, June 8 through Sunday, July 1. Richard Eyre's acclaimed Bristol Old Vic production stars Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons(Brideshead Revisited, Reversal of Fortune,  'The Borgias') and Olivier Award winner and Oscar nominee Lesley Manville(Another Year,  'Harlots,' Phantom Thread). Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game, The Riot Club), Rory Keenan (BBC's 'War & Peace,' 'Peaky Blinders') and Jessica Regan (reprising the role as Cathleen from the 2016 Bristol Old Vic production) round out the ensemble cast.
