New Federal Theatre to Stage 50th Anniversary Production of IN WHITE AMERICA

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre kicks off its 47th season a rare revival of Martin Duberman's In White America, not seen in NYC for 50 years! In White America, directed by Charles Maryan, will begin performances October 15th, with opening night set for October 29th at the Castillo Theater (543 West 42nd Street). This limited Off-Broadway engagement will continue through November 15th only.

The Public Theater will kick off the 2015-16 season in September with a free Public Works musical adaptation of Homer's THE ODYSSEY, conceived and directed by Public Works Director Lear deBessonet, with music, lyrics and book by Todd Almond. THE ODYSSEY will once again feature over 200 actors and community members alongside five equity actors, including this year Brandon Victor Dixon as Odysseus, Karen Olivo as Penelope and Taran Killam as Cyclops.

Debra Messing & More to be Honored by Trinity Rep

At the 19th annual Pell Awards, Trinity Rep will award Debra Messing with the Pell Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Arts. John Chan, jazz promoter and owner of Chan's Fine Oriental Dining in Woonsocket will be honored with a Rhode Island Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts. Dancer and choreographer Julie Strandberg will receive the Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts and Trinity Rep's former executive director, Michael Gennaro, will be awarded with the Pell Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Arts. The ceremony will be held Monday, June 15, 2015 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow at the Providence Public Library.

The Public Theater announced additional casting today for the 2015 Free Shakespeare in the Park season, beginning Wednesday, May 27 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. This summer will feature Shakespeare's late romances with THE TEMPEST, directed by Tony Award nominee Michael Greif, and CYMBELINE, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan. Jesse Tyler Ferguson will return to the Park this summer as Trinculo in THE TEMPEST, along with Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe teaming up again with Daniel Sullivan on CYMBELINE to play Posthumus Leonatus/Cloten and Imogen, respectively.

The Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the oldest theatrical organization in the United States, celebrated Chris Pratt as the recipient of its 2015 Man of the Year Award. The Pudding is excited to honor a performer who became a bona fide Hollywood heavyweight in the past year. Pratt joined his Parks & Recreation co-star Amy Poehler, who was feted on January 29 as the Hasty Pudding's 2015 Woman of the Year. Harlem Stage to Present World Premiere of STRANGER ON EARTH

Harlem Stage will present the world premiere of Stranger on Earth, from OBIE-winning playwright and interdisciplinary performing artist Carl Hancock Rux. The production, which anchors Harlem Stage's The Year of James Baldwincentenary celebration and exemplifies the institution's commitment to honoring artists of color-past, present and future-imagines a chance meeting between James Baldwin and Dinah Washington, two of the era's most iconic African Americans, at a Harlem jazz lounge in 1963. Commissioned and produced by Harlem Stage, Rux draws from Baldwin's landmark essays to create a work that addresses race, identity and the future of a world that both Baldwin and Washington struggled to understand and inhabit. Rux performs Stranger on Earth with vocalist Marcelle Davies Lashley, who interprets Washington's songs, against the backdrop of an arresting video montage by Onome Ekeh.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association announces the 2014/15 season programming for its acclaimed MusicNOW contemporary music series—dedicated to showcasing contemporary music through an innovative concert experience. Uniquely curated by CSO Mead Composers-In-Residence Mason Bates and Anna Clyne, the annual, four-concert series in 2014/15 presents a range of work from major musical figures such as Pierre Boulez and established contemporary talents such as John Luther Adams and Michael Gordon. Programs are performed by members of the CSO and guest artists led by MusicNOW principal conductor Cliff Colnot and guest conductors, which this year includes James Feddeck, winner of the 2013 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award.

The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association's (GLAZA) 44th Annual Beastly Ball, honoring animal advocate Heather Mycoskie and Tom Mankiewicz Leadership Award recipient Ken Ziffren, is set for Saturday, June 14, 2014, 6 pm, under the stars at the Los Angeles Zoo. In keeping with the Zoo's role as an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife, this year's Beastly Ball also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Beastly Ball guests, invited to dress in casual or safari attire, stroll through the Zoo after hours observing its inhabitants, watching animal feedings, chatting with keepers, viewing small animals up close, and enjoying entertainment, dancing, and dining on bountiful fare provided by some of L.A.'s most popular restaurants. Also featured are live and silent auctions comprised of hundreds of remarkable items and one-of-a-kind opportunities. Comedian Jimmy Pardo oversees the program with his signature humor as MC and live auctioneer. A memorial service has been set to celebrate the life of Seattle Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Jerry Manning, who died at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle on Apr. 30 due to complications from surgery for a congenital heart defect. An all-around theatre practitioner, Jerry was a beloved leader, director, producer, mentor and friend. Well-regarded by his peers, he was known for his biting sense of humor, irascible spirit, and sharp mind. He was 58.

Each year, a renowned theatre artist of world stature is invited by ITI Worldwide in Paris to craft the International Message, which is then translated into more than 20 languages to mark the global occasion.
