Grand Rapids Symphony's popular Picnic Pops returns this summer with the pop/rock sound of Hanson plus the eclectic folk/classical crossover virtuosity of Kittel & Co., the smooth all-male vocal harmonies of The Doo Wop Project, and the joyful, infections world music of Ladysmith Black Mambazo all joining the Grand Rapids Symphony at Cannonbsurg Ski Area in July for the 2020 D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops.

Gaither Music Group announced- today- that they will release a compilation of worship songs and hymns from seven-time GRAMMY winner Randy Travis with an album titled Precious Memories and an accompanying DVD entitled “Worship & Faith.” Filmed in 2003 at Calvary Assembly of God in Orlando, Fla., Travis and his band performed songs including “I'll Fly Away,” “Three Wooden Crosses” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” among other favorites. The newly re-packaged album includes songs such as “How Great Thou Art,” “Softly and Tenderly” and “The Unclouded Day.” The package is available for preorder now and will be released on February 21.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that actor John Karlen passed away earlier today at age 86 of congestive heart failure in hospice care in Burbank, California.

For a period of time in the early-to-mid '80s, Phast Phreddie & Thee Precisions were one of the hippest bands in the Los Angeles. Musical legends Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox / Dave Stewart p/k/a Eurythmics, Ernie Isley / Marvin Isley / O'Kelly Isley / Ronald Isley / Rudolph Isley / Chris Jasper p/k/a The Isley Brothers, Steve Miller, Chad Hugo / Pharrell Williams p/k/a The Neptunes, Rick Nowels and William “Mickey” Stevenson will become the latest inductees of the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the organization's 51st Annual Induction and Awards Dinner. These legendary songwriters wrote mega-hits such as, 'Vision of Love,”  “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Shout,” “The Joker,” “Hollaback Girl,” “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” and “Dancing In The Street.” The star-studded induction event is slated for Thursday, June 11th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Additional special award honorees will be announced soon.

Award-winning Wild Swan Theater continues its 40th season of bringing the finest professional theater to families with Frog and Toad, a charming production especially created for younger theater goers.  Based on Arnold Lobel's wonderful stories by the same name, Frog and Toad will captivate children from ages 3 to 8.  Through storytelling, puppets, and props, the play explores the adventures of these two very dear characters and their great friendship.

Rachel Bertone has set the bar high for the 45th anniversary season of the Lyric Stage Company with her pitch perfect production of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Assuming the mantle of both director and choreographer, with the dependable Dan Rodriguez as music director by her side, Bertone and her design team capture the grit and the innocence of the story set in the early 1960s, while finding ways to punctuate it with flashes of contemporary pizzazz. Puppet designer Cameron McEachern has crafted an Audrey II without gender bias on its menu, and despite being voiced by a woman (Yewande Odetoyinbo), the plant is no shrinking violet.

"In a story, someone had a dream. In that Dream, someone told a story." A Dream Like a Dream is one of the most celebrated Chinese theatrical masterworks of the 21st century. It was conceived and created by Stan Lai, who recently became the first Chinese theatre professional inducted into the Sibiu Walk of Fame at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, Romania's pre-eminent performing arts event. In 2002, the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre was the first professional company to mount A Dream Like a Dream, winning Best Overall Performance, Best Costume Design and Best Supporting Actor (TragedyDrama) at the 12th Hong Kong Drama Awards. After a hiatus of 17 years, the HKRep produces this work anew, co-directed by Stan Lai and HKRep Assistant Artistic Director Fung Wai Hang, with special guests Louisa So, three-time Hong Kong Drama Award Best Actor Poon Chan Leung and ViuTV series star Cecilia Choi from My Very Short Marriage leading a 30-member cast of HKRep company members and other outstanding local actors. The production runs from July 28th to September 8th at The Box, Freespace, Art Park, West Kowloon Cultural District. On July 11th, a limited number of tickets will be available for sale for the preview performance (July 27th) and the production run from URBTIX outlets and the West Kowloon Cultural District.
