City Lit Theater Company, in association with the American Library Association's Office of Intellectual Freedom, will present BOOKS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK, a celebration of BANNED BOOKS WEEK, September 24 - 30, 2017, at various locations in and around Chicago. Thanks to increased support from funding sources, the number of performances has been doubled for the 2017 festival over the 2016 schedule. All events are free to the public.

VIFF today announced that the VIFF LIVE lineup will include a special presentation of The Green Fog - A San Francisco Fantasia, a multi-experiential, visual and sound collage by award-winning filmmaker and cultural iconoclast Guy Maddin in collaboration with brothers Evan and Galen Johnson (The Forbidden Room, Seances) that re-imagines Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo.

The New York premieres and world premiere production of Gordon Getty's "Scare Pair," a double-bill by the San Francisco-based composer, pairs his two one act-operas -- Usher House and The Canterville Ghost -- together for the first time on October 19 and 21 (7:30pm) at The Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (located at East 68th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues).  Both works, with the libretto and music by Mr. Getty, will be sung in English and have a running time of 60 minutes each.

The Cabaret and Buckingham Companies announced plans today that will give The Cabaret a prominent, permanent downtown location in the Metzger Building at 9th and Pennsylvania Street in the heart of the evolving Library Square. The new space, which also houses the Arts Council of Indianapolis and Gallery 924, and once served as the Rollerland skating rink from the 1940s to the late 1970s, provides the perfect venue for The Cabaret.

Today's subject Mary Gordon Murray is currently living her theatre life onstage at The Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater playing Fräulein Schneider in the national tour of Cabaret. The production plays through August 6th.

The recipient of the 2017 Silver Ticket Award is highly regarded arts manager, community activist and activator Jane Marsland. San Francisco Ballet, long recognized for pushing boundaries in dance, has announced its 2017-18 Season program and schedule. This summer, SF Ballet will return to Festival Napa Valley for one performance only on Friday, July 21, 2017, accompanied by members of the SF Ballet Orchestra.
