The New York premieres and world premiere production of Gordon Getty's Scare Pair, a double-bill by the San Francisco-based composer, pairs his two one act-operas -- Usher House and The Canterville Ghost -- together for the first time on October 19 and 21 (7:30pm) at The Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (located at East 68th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues). Both works, with the libretto and music by Mr. Getty, will be sung in English and have a running time of 60 minutes each.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) with Wynton Marsalis, 'the greatest large jazz ensemble working today' (Chicago Tribune) will perform in Overture Hall on Sat., Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. with Badger High School Jazz Ensemble of Lake Geneva performing as the opening act. The stop in Madison also offers somewhat of a homecoming for pianist Dan Nimmer, who grew up in Wisconsin.

Musical genres have been melding for ages, yet pianist/composer David Lopato has developed an eclectic East-West fusion that truly has no precedent.

This November, Double Edge Theatre will tour to Los Angeles to perform music from Cada Luna Azul (Once a Blue Moon) at the 2017 Encuentro de las Americas ("Encuentro 2017"): Celebrating Dynamic Contemporary Latinx and Latin American Theatre. This international festival seeks to bring together Latinx and Latin American artists from across the hemisphere to share work, approaches, and methodologies with other theater makers in the pursuit of a common, multi-faceted understanding of the field at large.

City Lit Theater Company, in association with the American Library Association's Office of Intellectual Freedom, will present BOOKS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK, a celebration of BANNED BOOKS WEEK, September 24 - 30, 2017, at various locations in and around Chicago. The Cabaret and Buckingham Companies announced plans today that will give The Cabaret a prominent, permanent downtown location in the Metzger Building at 9th and Pennsylvania Street in the heart of the evolving Library Square. The new space, which also houses the Arts Council of Indianapolis and Gallery 924, and once served as the Rollerland skating rink from the 1940s to the late 1970s, provides the perfect venue for The Cabaret.

Today's subject Mary Gordon Murray is currently living her theatre life onstage at The Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater playing Fräulein Schneider in the national tour of Cabaret. The production plays through August 6th.
