Red Bull Arts New York is proud to present Gretchen Bender: So Much Deathless, the first posthumous retrospective of the life and work of the influential, multi-disciplinary artist. Now open to the public through July 28, the ambitious exhibition returns the spotlight to one of contemporary art's most prescient figures, detailing her historic importance and contemporary relevance.

The League of Professional Theatre Women (Kelli Lynn Harrison & Catherine Porter, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been leading the gender parity conversation and championing women in the professional theatre for over 35 years, will present an Oral History Project event with six-time Emmy and Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh on Monday, May 6 starting at 6pm in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (111 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street). Admission to the event is FREE and seats are available on a first-come-first-seated basis. Doors will open at 5:30pm.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces three additional commissioned playwrights as a part of Power Plays, an ambitious initiative commissioning and developing 25 new plays and musicals from a diverse mix of writers, composers and lyricists over the course of 10 years. Playwrights Kia Corthron, Idris Goodwin and Octavio Solis join previously commissioned playwrights with projects underway, including Aaron Posner, whose Power Play JQA, an inquisitive and provocative look at America's sixth president, enjoys its world premiere in Arena's Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle March 1 through April 14, 2019.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CBC are thrilled to announce legendary singer-songwriter Corey Hart as the 2019 inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.  Hart, who has sold over 16 million albums worldwide, will be officially inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame during The 2019 JUNO Awards on Sunday, March 17. To celebrate his induction, Hart will take the stage at Budweiser Gardens to perform on live television for the first time in over 20 years. Fans from across the world can tune-in to watch this special performance as part of The 2019 JUNO Awards broadcast live on CBC, CBC Radio, the free CBC Gem streaming servicein Canada and globally at cbcmusic.ca/junos.

Composers Now empowers living composers, celebrates the diversity of their voices, and honors the significance of their contributions to our society. On Thursday, January 31 @ 7:00, the 10th annual Composers Now Festival opens at The National Opera Center's Marc A. Scorca Hall in Manhattan.

Leading Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Star Orchestra returns to the Capitol Center for the Arts (CCA) in Downtown Concord, NH on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 7:30PM. The show is presented by the Capitol Center for the Arts and Kirschner Concerts.

Washington National Opera (WNO) named bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as the 2018 recipient earlier this year and is pleased to present him in concert today, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. The video for “Gainesville”—a previously unreleased song on the Tom Petty career-spanning box set An American Treasure—is premiering today. “Gainesville” was recorded in 1998 during Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' Echo sessions, and the video was directed by Brantley Gutierrez and produced by Michael W. On September 28, Reprise Records will release An American Treasure—a career-spanning Tom Petty box set. The 60-track set unveils dozens of previously unreleased recordings, alternate versions of classic songs, rarities, historic live performances and deep tracks that spotlight Tom's remarkable depth and evolution as a revered and tremendously influential songwriter, recording artist and performer. An American Treasure marks the first release of Tom Petty music since the artist's tragic passing in October 2017.

Hot Rize, one of the most respected and influential bands in bluegrass music, is pleased to announce the release of their aptly named new record Hot Rize 40th Anniversary Bash, recorded live at Boulder Theatre, over the course of three sold out shows in January of this year. Hot Rize (Nick Forster on bass, Pete Wernick on banjo, Tim O'Brien on mandolin and fiddle, and Bryan Sutton on guitar) were joined by longtime musical friends Jerry Douglas, Stuart Duncan, and Sam Bush, treating Boulder to three nights of unforgettable music. “We wanted to have a party,” says Forster.  “We wanted to have a full-out bash!” And now, on August 3rd, celebrating the anniversary of the band's 40th year together, fans worldwide are musically invited to the party, as the band selecting 19 of the best of those unforgettable performances for the new record. On Monday, Relixreleased the video for “Colleen Malone,” Wernick commenting that he “ ...learned this touching and lyrical song from the writer himself, Pete Goble, on his bus one day at a festival in the 1980s. The band liked it right away and our version became Song of the Year in 1991. It already seems to have become a standard at bluegrass jam sessions.” Watch here.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association today announced the following updates to the 2018/19 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall.  

Grease has been a part of the American musical theater vernacular for so long - it opened in Chicago some 47 years ago in the halcyon days of 1971 - that it's easy to overlook the show's impact on theater, in general, and audiences, in particular. Its multiple revivals on Broadway, in regional theater and in various community theater and high school drama settings probably makes you believe you've seen in far more often than you actually have (unless, of course, you watch the film treatment with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John over and over).
