The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center (FAC) brings the sold-out and twice extended production from 2014, LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE back to the stage November 12-22.

On Monday, November 2, 2015 at 6 PM at the Friars Club (57 East 55th Street, New York City), BROADWAY'S GOT GUTS will provide a spectacular evening of wonderful entertainment by Broadway's brightest, singing the wonderful standards and hits performed by the late, great Nancy LaMott on the 20th anniversary of her death, all to benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

“Aren't we all running from chainsaws in our past?” Wes asks his film analysis class early in the episode. SCREAM QUEENS in its third hour decides to preoccupy itself with the past. Who dated who last year? Who's the baby in the pilot? Who's Chanel #3's father? In doing so, the show manages to make wonderful forward progress in theme, plot, and character, maintaining a consistency with the two-hour premiere. 

Bram Stoker's Dracula has been a mainstay at Actors Theatre of Louisville (ATL) since 1995, and has become identified with actor/director William McNulty, who eight years ago was invited to forge his own adaptation of the horror classic. The result only intensified audience demand and acceptance, and the play now stands as the second holiday perennial (with A Christmas Carol) for Louisville's highly acclaimed regional theatre. This summer, Apollo's Fire embarks on its fourth international tour, performing with world-renowned violinist, Alina Ibragimova, at the BBC Proms in London (Aug. 15), The Aldeburgh Music/Snape Proms in the UK (Aug. 16), and performing a separate chamber program at the Tuscany Musical Landscapes Festival in Italy (Aug. 21). Apollo's Fire's debut at the BBC Proms will be followed by a VIP reception hosted by the U.S. Embassy Chargé d'Affaires. Additionally, Apollo's Fire presents “Greatest Hits of the 1720s” at the prestigious Tanglewood Festival in Lenox, MA on July 2.

It's another busy weekend of new shows opening and many others continuing to delight audiences, with ACT 1's Dog Sees God and Street Theatre Company's Dogfight both opening tonight, while two shows that opened yesterday will continue to treat audiences to some especially wonderful music. Plus, there's a whole slate of shows being performed at Crossville's Cumberland County Playhouse, a revival of Osborne & Epplers' Southern Fried Nuptials down in Woodbury at the Arts Center of Cannon County, and John Chaffin's Cliffhanger enters its final weekend at Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre. Go to the theater, young man (and woman) and let yourself be transported to a whole new world of magic and enchantment!

The Alliance Theatre has announced its upcoming production of Blues for an Alabama Sky, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the production's world premiere at the Alliance in 1995. Written by beloved Atlanta author and playwright, Pearl Cleage (What I Learned in Paris, The Nacirema Society…) and directed by Alliance Theatre Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Susan V. Booth, Blues for an Alabama Sky is a timeless look at hopeful dreams in the hopeless days of the waning Harlem Renaissance. Opening night is Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

Five big productions will take centre-stage in National Theatre Wales' fifth season of work, announced this week. The productions reunite the company with some old friends, and introduce some new ones. They were announced in a series of digital messages sent to mobile phones throughout the week (2-6 March 2015).

Thanks to the team at Signature Theatre, audiences in the DC-area are being given the opportunity to see another world premiere of a new musical, Kid Victory! John Kander, legendary composer, along with his late composing partner, Fred Ebb, of such beloved musicals as Chicago and Cabaret, and of the iconic anthem, New York, New York, is behind this new work, and Kid Victory is Kander's second offering in partnership with playwright Greg Pierce [nephew of actor David Hyde Pierce]. Their previous new musical, The Landing, premiered Off Broadway at NYC's Vineyard Theatre in 2013.

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, the area's only year-round producing theatre, reached a milestone in 2014, celebrating its 20th Anniversary Platinum Season. Today, the theatre's producers have announced the line-up for the 2015 Mainstage Season.

In my recent very extended assessment of cabaret shows I never reviewed during the second half of 2014, there were two significant omissions. I didn't leave these out of my critical mix because they weren't strikingly significant. In fact, it was just the opposite. The new variety game show, Tune In Time, which dubs itself the “Musical Theater Olympics,” and the musical theater piece/song cycle, New World Waking, were among the most original and entertaining productions I witnessed this year and deserved more of a feature treatment than a quickie review. My take on Tune In Time (which will begin a new monthly run at the York Theatre on January 5) should beat the clock before the next show. So by simple process of elimination, this commentary will be on New World Waking, which when performed on December 6 was one of the highlights of the recent annual 12-day, 20-show Winter Rhythms Festival at Urban Stages.

In a much heralded return engagement, The COPA Palm Spings presents Chicago music and comedy legends Amy Armstrong and Freddy Allen for two performances, December 27 at 8:00 pm and December 28 at 7:30 pm in very special holiday show. Amy and Freddy have graced the stages coast-to-coast, in venues both large and small, and in over 20 countries with their one-of-a-kind wit and musical prowess. They have had the pleasure of opening and sharing the spotlight with Kathy Griffin, Mary Wilson and the Supremes, Phyllis Diller, Bea Arthur, Jennifer Holiday andJudy Gold, to name a few. In 2009, Amy & Freddy were featured on national television on Entertainment Tonight as part of their work with the NBC reality show 'America's Got Talent. They are also the proud multi-recipients of both the Gay Chicago Magazine 'After Dark' and Chicago Free Press 'Pressie' awards. I had the chance to chat with Amy and Freddy prior to their sell-out July performances at The Copa and I thought is was worth sharing again - here are a few excerpts from that conversation:

The Alliance is pleased to partner with Dad's Garage to present the holiday themed production, It's a Wonderful Laugh. The award-winning Dad's Garage Ensemble will parody the quintessential Christmas story It's a Wonderful Life with a fun rotating cast of familiar and not-so-familiar characters. It's a Wonderful Laugh runs on the Hertz Stage from November 28 - December 20, 2014. Opening Night is Today, December 5, 8:00 p.m.

Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation presents its second season at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center -- Three Dog Night on Saturday, January 10 at 8 pm; The Four Tops on Saturday, February 21 at 8 pm; Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Friday, March 27 at 8 pm; The Muppet Movie Sing-a-Long on Saturday, May 16 at 2 pm and Dick Fox Doo Wop Extravaganza on Saturday, June 6 at 7 pm. This four concert season, and the additional attraction The Muppet Movie Sing-A-Long, is presented by the Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation and is a means of raising funds to support arts in the schools and maintain this new, state-of-the-art facility.
