With a $38 million project under construction, a world premiere adaptation, a visit from England and the continuation of the Complete the Canon and History Cycle initiatives, the Utah Shakespeare Festival showed no signs of slowing down in 2014, its 53rd season. Producing 235 performances in rotating repertory in three theatres for 17 weeks is no easy feat, but through countless hours, a dedicated group of artists has pulled off another artistically successful year. The World Premiere of AFFLUENCE by playwright Steven Peterson is a pitch-dark comedy that may cause one to reflect on the true meaning of wealth. The play was the winner of the 2013 Julie Harris Playwright Award of the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild, now onstage at Theatre 40 through October 20, directed by Larry Eisenberg and produced by David Hunt Stafford, their first stage collaboration in their 40 year friendship. What took you two so long to create such a fine piece of theater?

Portland Stage's production of Nina Raine's 2010 play,Tribes, offers a thoughtful exploration of the bonds forged by communication. The play, which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in London and later Off-Broadway, is a scathingly funny, warm look at a dysfunctional family and their interaction with their deaf son, Billy, who has not been raised in a deaf culture, but rather by his hearing parents and his siblings.

TRIASSIC PARQ The Musical, presented by Amas Musical Theatre, is set to play a limited Off-Broadway engagement at the SoHo Playhouse, June 12th through August 5th. Opening night is Wednesday, June 27th. Winner of 2010's Best Musical Award at FringeNYC, TRIASSIC PARQ is written by Marshall Pailet, Bryce Norbitz and Steve Wargo, with direction by Marshall Pailet, choreography by Kyle Mullins and musical direction by Zak Sandler.
