The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is pleased to announce the 2015-2016 Citizens Bank Children's Theater Series.  Now in its 46th season, the Theater Series will present award-winning, professional theater companies featuring live performances for young audiences ages 3 and up.   Performances based on prize-winning and popular children's books adapted for the stage by Theatreworks USA (USA), Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia (Canada), Tall Stories (UK), Windmill Theatre (Australia) and Adventure Theatre MTC (USA) can be seen at various locations throughout the Pittsburgh area.    The 2015-2016 Season has expanded from five to six shows, with the final show of the season a part of the EQT Children's Theater Festival, May 12-15, 2016.

From July 9-19 Japan Society's renowned summer film festival presents 28 features never before seen in New York

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Opera announced that they are co-presenting a free outdoor screening of Jerome Robbins & Robert Wise's Academy Award-winning film West Side Story on the Lincoln Center Plaza in front of the opera house on Friday, August 28 at 7:45pm.

Eat|See|Hear, LA's premier movies in the park event series, will be in Griffith Park on Saturday, June 6, to showcase the 1961 romantic comedy, Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The Old Globe will throw open its doors for a 2015 Summer Season featuring Shakespeare on stage and in film, continuing its celebration of the Globe's 80th Anniversary and Balboa Park's Centennial. All of San Diego is invited to join us for a series of free Monday night films relating to Shakespeare through the eras to celebrate both the Balboa Park Centennial and the theatre's 80th Anniversary. Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and Beth Accomando, author of the KPBS blog Cinema Junkie, will alternate introducing the films.

The complete cast and creative team have been announced for The Old Globe production of William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night. Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, is back to direct the first show of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. The Old Globe engagement will begin performances on June 21 and run through July 26, 2015, with opening night on Saturday, June 27 at 8:00 p.m., in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.

Musicals have had a steady history of lusty musical numbers. There are songs about rolling in the hay, and others extolling the virtues of different (ahem) flavors of man-candy. Some songs are paens to hot, steamy nights, and some are about what you do on those kind of nights. 

Judy Collins, who celebrated her 76th birthday on May 1, has been entertaining us for 56 years "not including childhood." A formidable contributor to the soundtrack of Boomer lives, her transcendent voice conjures memories like few others of any generation. Collins' current show at Cafe Carlyle (which opened last night and runs until May 16) mines familiar territory like evocative comfort food, including retold tales that sometimes go on too long. Many songs take on new coloring both vocally and in terms of changed context, i.e. that of a mature woman looking back.

American icon Loretta Lynn, who has delighted audiences for over five decades with her distinctive fusion of twang, grit and energy, makes a rare Omaha concert appearance at the Holland Performing Arts Center on Friday, August 7, at 8:00 p.m.

Riverside's celebrated 2014-2015 Season continues with the most anticipated show of the season, West Side Story. Anita Darian, a soprano whose four-octave voice earned her the nickname “The Armenian Yma Sumac” and spawned an eclectic 50-year career that ranged from performances with the New York City Opera, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic to big-band jazz concerts, co-starring roles with Barbara Cook, and hit pop recordings that included “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is dead at 87. A longtime resident of East Atlantic Beach, L.I., she died Sunday, Feb. 1 at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside of complications from surgery.
