The Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside has announced its initial line-up of shows for the Winter/Spring of 2012!

The original international phenomenon, RIVERDANCE, the thunderous celebration of joyful music, song and dance that has tapped its way onto the world stage thrilling millions of people around the globe, will return for one week only to the Pantages Theatre, opening November 15, 2011 - exactly 15 years to the day the show originally premiered at the landmark Hollywood venue.

Celtic Yuletide - starring internationally renowned Irish tenor Michael Londra (Riverdance on Broadway) - is preparing to sweep San Francisco Bay Area audiences away to the music, dance and heart of Ireland during the holidays.

From the top Riverdance is defined as journey...that takes us from land to water and back, or from sky to land and back, from one land to another, even... from one life to the next... oh, what awesome journeys Riverdance enfolds! Incorporating dance, song and music, both traditional and contemporary, the show began in 1994 as a salute to these art forms but not without an abundance of variety. According to director John McColgan, it would be impossible to represent Irish dance without presenting ballet or Spanish flamenco, and so the Irish Dance Troupe includes dancers from Australia, Great Britain and Spain. One great highlight of Act I is the Firedance with Flamenco soloist Marita Martinez-Rey, who stops the show with her dazzling display of fast, graceful footwork and inspired beauty. Footwork of the flamenco style certainly has a lot in common with the steadily heavy footwork of Irish dancing, but you must see both to appreciate how one may have influenced the other.

Irish and Broadway stars came out Saturday night for Bill Whelan's first in a series of 4 concerts at the Irish Arts Center. Among the attendees: five-time Tony Award-winner Angela Lansbury, Emmy Award winner and two-time Tony Award nominee Andre De Shields, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, award-winning author Colum McCann, Consul General of Ireland Noel Kilkenny, Malachy McCourt,Chief Executive Eugene Downes of Culture Ireland, Aidan Connelly Executive Director Irish Arts Center, Pauline Turley, Vice Chair Irish Arts Center and many more. Whelan conducted the nine-piece orchestra, played the piano, told stories and sang along with special guests world-renowned fiddler ATHENA TERGIS, Irish singer MORGAN CROWLEY and Irish Dancer and former RIVERDANCE star MICK DONEGAN.

The Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) will continue its 24th Season with the 20th Anniversary production of Brian Friel's Tony Award-winning play DANCING AT LUGHNASA, with previews set to begin October 19 on the Irish Repertory's Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage, prior to an official press opening October 30.
