On Friday, February 19 at 9:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall presents Grammy Award-nominated Latin jazz band The Pedrito Martinez Group, led by Cuban percussionist and vocalist Pedrito Martinez, in an evening of music centered on the Afro-Cuban rumba tradition, and the bata rhythms and vocal chants of the music of Yoruba and Santeria.

Baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky returns to Carnegie Hall in a recital with pianist Ivari Ilja on Wednesday, February 17 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, performing works by Glinka, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mahler, and Richard Strauss. The concert marks more than 25 years since Mr. Hvorostovsky's Carnegie Hall debut 1990; he last performed at the Hall with Mr. Ilja in 2013.

Back by popular demand - Apollo's Fire reprises its latest creative crossover program by Artistic Director Jeannette Sorrell, in collaboration with guest co-director Nell Snaidas.  “Sephardic Journey: Wanderings of the Spanish Jews” premiered in five sold-out concerts in February 2014.  The program will be performed during February 4-7 at several venues, including an important debut at the new Maltz Performing Arts Center of Case Western Reserve University. The performances will coincide with a highly anticipated release of the program on CD, for British record label AVIE.

What really goes on backstage, when the public face is replaced by the private one? DRESS REHEARSAL follows five performers over one evening as they endeavour to bring opera to a London pub. Onstage and backstage, the arias and ballads parallel the hopes, fears and disappointments of the individual singers.

Now that 2015 is squarely in the rearview mirror, and everyone is back to work after the holidays, it is time to take a look at some of the best films of the past year. As was the case with my Top 15 TV Shows of 2015 list, this is not intended to be a comprehensive list. I am one man, and I have not yet seen every major movie released last year. However, as I continue to work through screeners and upcoming screenings (I live in Orlando, so not all of the awards-bait has been released here yet), I will count down the top 2015 releases that I saw during the calendar year. Notable omissions are BRIDGE OF SPIES, THE REVENANT, THE DANISH GIRL, and CONCUSSION, all of which I hope to see by the end of the week.

The Public Theater announced complete casting today for the world premiere three-play cycle THE GABRIELS: Election Year in the Life of One Family, written and directed by Richard Nelson. Featuring the same core acting company for all three productions, Play One: HUNGRY, will begin previews on Saturday, February 27 and run through, Sunday, March 20, with an official press opening on Friday, March 4, 2016. The second play, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?, will premiere in September and the final play in the new cycle, WOMEN OF A CERTAIN AGE, will open on election night, November 8, 2016.
