“Arthur [in CAMELOT] is a man with strong hopes and plans that blow up in his face. SPAMALOT has a much happier ending because Arthur learns that life is too important to be taken seriously. Just whistle -that’s the thing. In CAMELOT Arthur doesn’t quite get there.”
Award-winning actor Charles Shaughnessy is talking about his experience playing Arthur, King of the Britains, in two different musicals. Shaughnessy is poised to reprise his role as the monarch in the Ogunquit Playhouse’s SPAMALOT, which opens at the theatre’s new Leary Pavilion on June 16 and runs through July 10, 2021. He first appeared there in the Monty Python musical comedy in 2011 and also played Arthur in Lerner and Loewe’s CAMELOT at North Shore Music Theatre in 2005.

Arizona Broadway Theatre had been waiting to produce the iconic musical Chicago since the theatre opened in 2005. In March of 2020, ABT finally opened Chicago to sold-out audiences and projected that this production would be the most popular in ABT history. Unfortunately, after only 4 performances, Chicago was suddenly shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The cast and crew were sent home, the costumes were packed away, and the ghost light was set on the stage with the Chicago set to wait until the show could, hopefully, one day be back.

Over the Rhine, the Cincinnati-based, husband-and-wife team of Karin Bergquist (vocals, acoustic guitar, tenor guitar) and Linford Detweiler (vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboards), has been a prolific, music-making, folk-pop duo for more than two decades. For their 2018 tour, they will perform as a trio, leaning into three-part harmonies and making an intimate and holy ruckus of Christmas music and tunes from their many records along the way.

Hide the Moon and the Stars, the sublime new duo recording from pianist Bryn Roberts and guitarist Lage Lund, isn't the kind of jazz album that needs to be read about before it can be understood and enjoyed. It didn't premiere as part of a postmodern opera or multimedia performance; there isn't an overarching concept gleaned from abstract expressionism or the poetry of Rumi. Rather, with its casually stunning interplay and lyrical original music, it's “simply a good showcase for these two particular players, these two voices, these two musical personalities who've been friends for over a dozen years,” Roberts says.
