Over the course of each Broadway season, unexpected and unique storylines inevitably pop up. This morning, with the announcement of the 2019 Tony Award nominations, a number of new narratives have come to life.

Walnut Street Theatre concludes its thrilling 210th season with the award-winning Broadway hit, LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL. Directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford, the high-energy musical begins previews on May 14, opens May 22, and continues through July 14.

Nominations for the 2019 Chita Rivera Awards were announced today. In keeping with the mission of the Chita Rivera Awards, nominators considered shows and films that opened during the 2018-2019 theater season.

The Academy of American Poets has announced that thirteen poets who serve as poets laureate of states, cities, and counties across the U.S. will receive a combined $1,050,000 in recognition of their literary merit and to support civic programs, which will take place over the next twelve months.

For a while, it seemed like we might only have one musical revival, the Roundabout Theatre Company production of KISS ME, KATE. Then a transfer of critical darling OKLAHOMA! was announced for the Circle in the Square, adding some excitement to the Tony race. This excitement is not just over which of these revivals will win, but rather whether there will be a Best Revival of a Musical award at all. All signs point to yes, though it is not a definite.

Arthur Miller's All My Sons begins preview performances tonight, April 4, 2019, and opens officially on Monday, April 22, 2019.

The Broadway League has awarded the New York Education and Engagement Grants to the Broadway productions of Oklahoma! and Lincoln Center Theater's To Kill A Mockingbird. Each production received a $5,000 grant toward its 2019 educational and engagement initiatives. The grants aid the growth and development of theatre education in the city in an effort to encourage Broadway productions to create more opportunities for young people.

Comedian, writer, producer and star of HBO's "Real Time," BILL MAHER, returns to Minneapolis at the historic State Theatre (805 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis) on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. For more than 25 years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television.  First on "Politically Incorrect" (Comedy Central, ABC, 1993-2002), and for the last 16 years on HBO's "Real Time," Maher's combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him 41 Emmy nominations.

On February 3, 1959, a chartered aircraft crashed in Mason City, Iowa just minutes after takeoff claiming the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and the pilot, Roger Peterson. The fateful day was coined "The Day The Music Died" by iconic singer and songwriter Don McLean, in his hit song "American Pie." As the 60th anniversary of the tragic plane crash approaches, McLean has not forgotten the day that inspired his magnum opus.

Manhattan Concert Productions (MCP) has just announced lead casting for their concert performance of Frank Wildhorn and Nan Knighton's musical comedy The Scarlet Pimpernel. Breakout series: ANTHEM: An Evening with Justice Ameer and Chrysanthemum Tran. The Directors Guild of America  today announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2018.

The Academy of American Poets is pleased to announce that Joy Harjo and Natasha Trethewey have been named its newest Chancellors, an honorary position that has been held by some of the most distinguished poets in the United States, including W. H. Auden, John Ashbery, Elizabeth Bishop, Lucille Clifton, Yusef Komunyakaa, Adrienne Rich, and Mark Strand. Poets elected to the Board of Chancellors become an important part of the history of Academy of American Poets and as of 2019, only 115 poets have been elected to this board since it was formed in 1946.

On January 11 and 12, 2019, Kids Helping Kids, a local Santa Barbara nonprofit comprised of over 100 students in the Advanced Placement Economics classes at San Marcos High School, will hold their annual benefit concert at The Granada Theatre. Shirley MacLaine will receive AARP The Magazine's2018 Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award, the publication announced today. MacLaine will be honored at the 18th annual Movies for Grownups® Awards ceremony on Feb. 4, 2019 in Beverly Hills, California.
