Central Works season of new plays continues this spring with a "cheeky" thriller written by the local award-winning  playwright Patricia Milton, The Victorian Ladies' Detective Collective, opening May 4 running through June 2 (previews 5/2 & 3); world-premiere # 63, from the Central Works Writers Workshop. The production, directed by Gary Graves, is the fifth writer/director comic collaboration between Central Works' resident playwright and its company co-director.  In Victorian London it seems Jack the Ripper may be at it again where sisters Loveday and Valeria run a boarding house for Single Ladies.

Central Works' 2019 season begins February 16 and runs through November 24, 2019 featuring the world premieres of 4 new plays. This 29th season begins with a bizarre comedy, followed by a Victorian mystery, a political thriller, and then in the fall it takes us on a deep dive into the sensual world of author Christina Garcia. The 2018 Season was celebrated and nominated for the comedy and SRO runs of Patricia Milton's Bamboozled and Cristina Garcia's King of Cuba which featured Marga Gomez as El Comandante. Milton's Bamboozled was a finalist for 6 TBA Awards, including Outstanding World Premiere, Entire Production, and Outstanding Direction - it won for Entire Production, Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Performance for its 2 principal actors, Stacy Ross and Chelsea Bearce. The hit comedy A Doll's House, Part 2 by Lucas Hnath, nominated for eight Tony Awards during its 2017 Broadway run, will premiere at George Street Playhouse's current venue, 103 College Farm Road in New Brunswick, NJ, featuring Kellie Overbey (Broadway's The Coast of Utopia) in the leading role of Nora Helmer.

A gentle young teacher, expecting a generous bequest from her deceased father, suddenly finds out she's been disinherited. All the money she was counting on will now go to a vicious gold digger who swooped down and captivated her father in his last illness. Who'll come to the rescue? A fairy godmother? A Prince Charming? What will our heroine resort to? Opened September 22, the show runs through October 14

Three Tales by Steve Reich, with visuals by Beryl Korot, will open the Long Beach Opera's 40th Anniversary Season, for two performances Saturday, November 3 at 6pm and Sunday, November 4 at 2:30pm at the Ernest Borgnine Theater, Scottish Rite Event Center, in Long Beach, CA.  The production is sung in English, and is conducted by Andreas Mitisek. Three Tales will serve as the centerpiece to Long Beach Opera's 40th anniversary Gala, which will take place following the performance on November 3rd.

The Public Theater announced complete casting today for the New York premiere of WILD GOOSE DREAMS, written by Hansol Jung and directed by Tony Award nominee Leigh Silverman.

The Peace Center announces Peace Voices Songwriters, a new extension of the Peace Voices program. Spearheaded by Greenville's Edwin McCain and songwriter Maia Sharp, the program features a concert series with guest singer-songwriters. It also offers a workshop series for aspiring songwriters, which will culminate in a recorded song.

More metal munching madness is headed to Science Channel as the network has picked up rights to air the robot fighting series ROBOT WARS. Filmed in an enormous bulletproof fighting arena that contains dangerous hazards such as fire, spikes, the flipper and the iconic pit, 40 of the top robot combat teams from all over the world compete for Robot Wars supremacy. ROBOT WARS is set for its U.S. premiere on Wednesday, August 8 at 10pm ET/PT.
