On March 13 and 20, 2021 New York's New Federal Theatre (NFT) will present 'New Federal Theatre Celebrates Women's History Month,' a retrospective readings series in which significant plays from the '80s on generational issues in Black women's lives will be recreated by noted actors and directors.  The readings will be free and accessible from NFT's website, https://www.newfederaltheatre.com. Donations will be gratefully accepted.

Today rock and roll legends Guns N' Roses announced that seminal group The Smashing Pumpkins will join a select number of dates on their recently announced, highly anticipated 2020 worldwide stadium tour. The colossal Guns N' Roses 2020 Tour will feature The Smashing Pumpkins at stops in major cities across North America – Philadelphia, PA; Detroit, MI; Toronto, ON; Washington, DC; East Rutherford, NJ; and Boston, MA. Trinity Rep continues its 2019-20 Season with the final play from American theatrical legend August Wilson - Radio Golf. Directed by resident acting company member Jude Sandy, the show features resident acting company member Joe Wilson, Jr., as Harmond Wilks, a man determined to revive his childhood neighborhood without considering the emotional cost. Both moving and funny, Radio Golf is the culmination of August Wilson's ten-play American Century Cycle chronicling each decade of African-American life in the twentieth century. Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University School of the Arts have announced the winners of Columbia@Roundabout's 2019 New Play Reading Series. As part of the collaborative partnership between Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University, the reading series awards three playwrights from the current MFA program and recent alumni with a cash prize as well as a reading in Roundabout's Rehearsal Hall, followed by a post-reading reception. Five finalists have also received cash prizes in recognition of their exceptional work. No other collaborative partnership in the New York area brings together an esteemed Ivy League MFA program with a Tony Award-winning, not-for-profit theatre. The reading series is made possible by a grant from The Tow Foundation.

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, a program within the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts at Wayne State University, is thrilled to kick off our year-long 90 Years of Dance at Wayne celebration with the annual December Dance Concert, December 7 and 8 at Detroit's Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts.  This year's show promises diverse and moving works showcasing highlights of dance through the decades. Dance students have the pleasure of working with a variety of talented artists, including invited guests, esteemed faculty, and talented student choreographers.

Two of the greatest novels in American literature were published in a span of less than three years in the late 1930s, and comparisons between them are unavoidable. Both examined cultures at the moments of their demise - one historical, and the other contemporary. Margaret Mitchell's epic immersed readers in the collapse of the elite class, ultimate victims of their own inhumanity. John Steinbeck's masterpiece spotlighted the cultural extinction occurring at that very moment among the poorest and meekest as their livelihoods were, very literally, gone with the wind. Had it not been taken, that might have been a better title for Steinbeck's, THE GRAPES OF WRATH. The two books came to movie screens only six weeks apart to take their places in Hollywood history.

This summer, JAW: A Playwrights Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary by doing what it does best: selecting some of the most exciting new plays of our time and providing complete support to the playwrights to develop those scripts in whatever area is most beneficial to them. Two weeks of script workshopping will culminate in the JAW Big Weekend, July 27-29, where public staged readings of the scripts will be presented along with performances from local artists and classes. Plenty of champagne and birthday cake will also be enjoyed, to celebrate all that JAW has accomplished since its brave and ambitious beginnings in 1999.
