Red Bull Theater today announced a very special Revelation Reading: for two nights only, on Sunday, June 18th and Monday June 19th at The Duke on 42nd Street (229 West 42nd Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues) Red Bull will present a concert reading of  THE COUNTRY WIFE, a new musical adapted from the play of the same name by William Wycherley by Richard Maltby Jr. with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and music by David Shire, and direction by Mr. Maltby.  

Audiences are certain to be entranced as the Hale Centre Theatre in Gilbert is transformed into a magical underwater kingdom when the Hale presents Disney's The Little Mermaid. The production featuring fantastic costumes and special effects bows on July 7th and runs through August 19th. The Connecticut premiere of Trav'lin - The 1930s Harlem Musical opens this weekend at Waterbury's Seven Angels Theatre, following productions at Houston's Ensemble Theatre and Fort Worth's Jubilee Theatre, and development in Washington, D.C. and New York City, including a sold-out run at the New York Musical Festival (NYMF).  Performances being Thursday, May 11, Official Opening is Saturday, May 13, and the show runs through Sunday, June 11, 2017.

When Dawn Wells last appeared at the Alhambra Theatre, ticket started at $7.50, the Alhambra Dinner Theater served a buffet and she was directed by George Ballis.  That was in 1974 and Ms. Wells played the lead in Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park.  On May 24, 2017, Ms. Wells will once again star at the Alhambra, this time in the Tod Booth-directed show, Steel Magnolias in what is now the Alhambra Theatre & Dining, celebrating its 50th anniversary season and is the longest running professional dinner theater in America.

In the vast world of community theatre, the production of obscure musicals can often be a dangerous game. The unfamiliarity of the show tends to lend itself to smaller crowds and clouded expectations. From a performer's perspective, this can be both advantageous and inconvenient. While unknown characters provide more opportunity for creative liberties and interpretations, there is relatively little source material to draw from. However, from the perspective of an audience member, we are less likely to hold actors to certain standards of how a character is to be portrayed, because quite frankly, we're not too sure ourselves. In the case of CITY OF ANGELS at Theatre Harrisburg, the cast and crew have taken an exceptionally underground musical and crafted a performance that left the audience entertained from beginning to end, wondering why they'd never heard of it before.
