In a year that has seen momentous change across the globe, trailblazers from the arts, politics and activism are set to take part in the first ever WOW -Women of the World festival in Hull, created by Hull UK City of Culture 2017 as part of the global WOW Festivals originated by the Southbank Centre.

Acclaimed Off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons will hold its annual Spring Gala on Monday evening, May 8 at the event space 583 Park Avenue. Titled A CELEBRATION OF SONG, the evening will honor three of the company's exceptional alumni writers: Tony Award nominee Scott Frankel (Grey Gardens and Far From Heaven at Playwrights), Tony Award nominee Michael Korie (Grey Gardens and Far From Heaven at Playwrights) and Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife and Grey Gardens at Playwrights).

Globally-renowned violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and her longtime musical partner pianist Lambert Orkis give 11 performances across the United States in Spring 2017. The duo have spent nearly 30 years making music together, resulting in numerous successful Deutsche Grammophon recordings, earning Grammy® Awards, an ECHO Award, as well as a Choc de l'Année Award. The recital program will be played in seven cities including San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall, New York's Carnegie Hall and Washington DC's Kennedy Center, with a program including works by Sebastian Currier – who previously wrote a number of other works for Mrs. Mutter such as Aftersong (1994) and Ringtone Variations (2013) - Mozart, Respighi, and Saint-Saëns. Mrs. Mutter concludes the tour with a four-date engagement with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andris Nelsons, where the concert program features selections by Tchaikovsky and Nostalghia by Toru Takemitsu, which Mrs. Mutter played at her 35th Anniversary concert of her Japanese debut.

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced new casting for the national tour of Sam Mendes (Spectre, American Beauty) and Rob Marshall's (Into the Woods and Chicago, the films) Tony Award-winning production of CABARET.

The BLUEBARN Theatre will continue Season 28 with the sly, subversive comedy, HIR by Taylor Mac.

Ken Ludwig is the crown king of writing modern farcical plays. He and the Cleveland Play House seem to have a 'thing' for each other. Ludwig has had world premiere productions of his scripts A Comedy of Tenors (2015), The Games Afoot (2011) and Leading Ladies (2004) on CPH stages.

Red Hot Mama - The Sophie Tucker Songbook - is the story of the first lady of show business, the 'Last of the Red Hot Mamas', whose remarkable career spanned sixty years.  It contains the music and history of burlesque, vaudeville, Broadway and Las Vegas, in a critically acclaimed One-Woman Off-Broadway musical biography of the entertainment legend, written by and starring Tony Award Nominee Sharon McNight.   The LA Times reported, 'McNight gives the performance of a lifetime as 'The Last of the Red Hot Mamas'.

Coyote StageWorks, the Coachella Valley-based award-winning Actors' Equity professional theater company, will begin its 2016-2017 'Legendary Ladies' season on November 26, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. with a staged reading benefit gala performance of the beloved production 'Steel Magnolias,' by playwright Robert Harling. It will feature performances by well-known actresses Florence Henderson, Sally Struthers, Carole Cooke, Mo Gaffney, Yo Younger and Elaine Hayhurst and will be held at the Annenberg Theater at the Palm Springs Art Museum.

True, sometimes it takes years for art to truly be understood and appreciated, but theatre fans are well aware that it doesn't necessarily take that long to recognize some of the Tony voters' biggest mistakes. Next week marks six months from the 2017 Tony Awards, and to celebrate the half-way point, we're taking a closer look at some of those outright 'Huh?' winners of the past.
