From staged productions to kid-friendly films, to arts and crafts and themed viewing parties, Kean Stage is offering fun and exciting events that are sure to please the little ones in your family. On Saturday, December 16 at noon, at Kean University's STEM Building Auditorium (1075 Morris Ave. in Union, N.J.), children and their parents are invited to don their favorite holiday pajamas for a special viewing of the film The Polar Express, the story of a doubting 8-year-old boy who is whisked to the North Pole on a magical train for a meeting with Santa. Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University Announces Holiday Programming

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University, the historic former residence of New Jersey's first elected governor, William Livingston, is in full holiday swing. Its Christmas tour, A Wartime Christmas, is quickly becoming a favorite among visitors. Five different rooms of the museum has been transformed to allow guests to experience Christmas as it was on the homefront during the American Revolution (1776), the War of 1812, the Civil War (1862), World War I (1917) and World War II (1942). Visitors will see how Christmas decorating has changed over time and how wartime affects the holiday season. (more...)

Wallerstein Foundation Funds Playwriting Residency for Senior Citizens At Canterbury Village in West Orange

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre in residence at Kean University, is pleased to announce its second playwriting residency for senior citizens, graciously funded by the Wallerstein Foundation for Geriatric Life Improvement. Based in West Orange, the Wallerstein Foundation's primary mission is to support qualifying not-for-profit organizations that assist elderly individuals to remain healthy, active and engaged and generally improve their quality of life. The seven-week residency, which began in early October at Canterbury Village in West Orange, will culminate in a public presentation on November 28. John J. Wooten, producing artistic director of Premiere Stages, leads the residency. (more...)

"Teen Angel" Frankie Avalon will perform two shows, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m, at Kean University's Enlow Recital Hall in Hillside, N.J., on Saturday, February 3. Avalon has been on the music scene since he scored his first hit single, Dede Dinah, in 1958. Premiere Stages At Kean University To Receive Major Naming Gift From W. John Bauer And Nancy Boucher

Kean University announced today that Dr. W. John Bauer, Professor Emeritus, and his sister Nancy Boucher will make a major gift to the University on behalf of Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean. The gift will enable Premiere Stages and the Kean University Theatre Conservatory to refurbish the lobby and upgrade the entrance to their primary producing venues, the Zella Fry and Murphy Dunn Theatres housed in Vaughn Eames Hall. It will also provide support to Premiere's nationally recognized Play Festival and new play development programs. The University will commemorate the gift by officially designating the new entrance "The Bauer-Boucher Theatre Center." (more...)

Northfield Bank Foundation Funds Two Playwriting Residencies In Rahway School District

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, will return to the Rahway School District in 2018 for two playwriting residencies, graciously funded by the Northfield Bank Foundation. Over the course of seven weeks, 6th grade students in two classrooms at the Cleveland Elementary School and the Roosevelt Elementary School will learn the basics of playwriting and work collaboratively to write original short plays for the stage. Both residencies will culminate in schoolwide assemblies of the student-written monologues and scenes, performed by professional actors. (more...)
