Press opening is Thursday, August 3rd at 8:00pm. A celebration of 50 years since the 1967 "Summer of Love", HAIR will inspire audiences to "let the sun shine in" and stand up for what they believe in. This rousing rock musical will be led by Jeff Award Winners Brenda Didier (Director) and Eugene Dizon (Musical Director) with choreography by Christopher Carter.  A talented cast of Chicago artists featuring Matt Keffer and Liam Quealy will take the stage in this celebration of love, life, and freedom.

San Francisco Ballet, long recognized for pushing boundaries in dance, has announced its 2017-18 Season program and schedule. This summer, SF Ballet will return to Festival Napa Valley for one performance only on Friday, July 21, 2017, accompanied by members of the SF Ballet Orchestra. In addition, this October, the Company will once again participate in World Ballet Day LIVE, a day-long streaming event (details to be announced).

Choreographer Trisha Brown has died on March 18th in San Antonio, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her son, Adam Brown, his wife Erin, her four grandchildren – and by her brother Gordon Brown and sister Louisa Brown. Trisha Brown's husband, artist Burt Barr, died on November 7, 2016. 

Canada's internationally lauded Baroque orchestra Tafelmusik has just concluded its 2017 U.S. tour.  Travelling to eight cities across the country and in Puerto Rico, Tafelmusik performed a revelatory program titled 'J.S. Bach: Circle of Creation.' This interactive presentation combines text, music, and projected video and images to explore the world of the artisans – papermakers, violin carvers, string spinners, and performers – who helped J.S. Prolific screenwriter and playwright Del Shores is perhaps best known for his series of plays about growing up gay in the South. In the semi-autobiographical SOUTHERN BAPTIST SISSIES, now playing at the Desert Rose Playhouse in an excellent production, he describes the clash between his identities as a devout Baptist and a gay child.

DC Moore Gallery's new exhibition, Romare Bearden: Bayou Fever and Related Works, features a series of twenty-one vibrant collages from 1979 that Bearden conceived for a ballet that invokes African American traditions and the African presence that is deeply rooted in the Louisiana bayou near New Orleans, and elsewhere in North America and the Caribbean.

Creative Loafing's fourth annual Gasp!, presented by Tampa International Airport, is a performing arts event like no other - a kaleidoscopic circus of theater, dance, music, spoken word, visual art, soundscapes, cabaret and more at the Tampa Museum of Art on Friday, March 31st, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Pontine Theatre presents its original staging of  The Story of a Bad Boy by Thomas Bailey Aldrich.  This classic story of a boy's adventures takes place in the semi-fictional town of Rivermouth (Portsmouth NH).  The production is underwritten by Optima Bank & Trust.  Performances take place  at Strawbery Banke Museum (14 Hancock Street) on Friday March 31 @7pm, Saturday April 1 & 8 @4pm, and Sunday April 2 & 9 @2pm. Tickets ($24) may be purchased online at www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door a half-hour prior to each show, based on availability.  With an innovative use of puppetry and projected images, Pontine Co-Artistic Directors, Greg Gathers and Marguerite Mathews, tell the autobiographical story of a lively boy and his companions in mid-19th century Portsmouth, where Aldrich was sent to live under the watchful eyes of his grandfather. Aldrich's boyhood home, now part of Strawbery Banke Museum, will be open to audience members following each performance.  

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) announced today that it will release A Five-Act Play: 50 Years of A.C.T., a specially-commissioned commemorative book that provides a backstage and onstage perspective on A.C.T.'s rich 50-year history. Written by A.C.T.'s resident dramaturg Michael Paller­­--and published by San Francisco's Chronicle Books--A Five-Act Play: 50 Years of A.C.T. is an inside story of the Tony Award-winning theater organization and celebrates 50 years of commitment to the highest standards of live storytelling and the artists of the future.
