Walkabout Theater Company and Steppenwolf’s Look Out Series will present the U.S. premiere of Still a Quiet Afternoon – a mythic, musical tragicomedy about two people observing a multitude of apocalyptic events through their single window.

This September, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts celebrates its namesake with two projects: the opening of Art and Ideals: President John F. Kennedy—a new permanent exhibit exploring Kennedy's presidency and commitment to the arts—and a reprise of Bernstein's MASS, which premiered at the Center's opening exactly 51 years earlier. To put the biggest problem in contemporary terms, terms which doubtless occurred to many members of the audience besides just me: Is this a play about Zelensky or is it a play about Putin? You can characterize it as the story of a small army’s gallant victory against a much larger and better-equipped force, or you can talk about it as the story of an unprovoked invasion of a sovereign foreign land in service of an improbable abstract notion of the invading country’s imperial rights.
