'Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic' is a visually breathtaking cinematic shadow play for all ages, created and directed by Hamid Rahmanian, a 2014 Guggenheim fellowship-winning filmmaker/visual artist. Inspired by the tenth century Persian epic 'Shahnameh' (The Book of Kings), it dramatizes the origin story from the tale with elaborate shadow puppets, multimedia and live actors. The production, which debuted at BAM in 2016 and was presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art the same year, returns to New York next month for two days only. It will be presented by Fictionville Studio September 7 and 8 at Kaye Playhouse, 695 Park Ave. (at 68th Street), for three performances only before it travels to China and Paris.

Joan Tower, the Asher Edelman Professor in the Arts at Bard College, is renowned as one of America's most important living composers. This September, The Bard College Conservatory of Music celebrates Tower's 80th birthday with a concert program of featuring world premieres of Towers' recent compositions including Small Plus (2018) performed by S? Percussion; Looking Back (2018) performed by the Da Capo Chamber Players; and Thank You (2018), with Dawn Upshaw conducting members of the Bard Conservatory Graduate Vocal Arts Program.

Executive and Artistic Director Keith Gerth and Associate Artistic Director Stephen Smith of the Oil Lamp Theater in Glenview announce their next production, Mark St. Germain's medical drama The God Committee. National Geographic Global Networks CEO Courteney Monroe and Gordon Ramsay announced today during the network's session at the Television Critics Press Tour the greenlight of GORDON RAMSAY: UNCHARTED, a series that draws connections between exploration, adventure and food - with a dash of friendly competition - starring Ramsay. Produced by his own Studio Ramsay, the celebrated chef will embark on anthropology-through-cuisine expeditions to unearth the most incredible people, places and flavors the world has to offer. GORDON RAMSAY: UNCHARTED will premiere globally in 2019 on National Geographic in 171 countries and 43 languages, with Studio Ramsay/All3 Media retaining rights in the remaining international territories. Production is set to begin this fall.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced the selection of four Honorees who will receive the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements, and a special Honors distinction for a work of art and its co-creators. Recipients to be honored at the 41st annual national celebration of the arts are: singer and actress Cher, composer and pianist Philip Glass, Country music entertainer Reba McEntire, and jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter. This year, the co-creators of Hamilton-writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director Alex Lacamoire-will receive a unique Kennedy Center Honors as trailblazing creators of a transformative work that defies category.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that Paula S. Apsell, Senior Executive Producer of the multiple Emmy® Award winning series, NOVA, and Director of the WGBH Science Unit, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award at the 39th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards.  Apsell is being honored for her distinguished career of over four decades in science journalism, and for her 33 years at the helm of NOVA, PBS' premier science documentary series, produced at WGBH Boston. The award will be presented on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located in the Time Warner Center in New York City.

Music at Kohl Mansion has announced the lineup for its 2018-2019 season of chamber concerts in Burlingame's historic Kohl Mansion, opening Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 7 pm. The series will mark its 36th year with eight concerts, featuring five returning audience favorite ensembles and three debut ensembles. Music at Kohl Mansion will welcome back the Alexander String Quartet, the Miro Quartet, the Trio con Brio Copenhagen, the Israeli Chamber Project, and the Trio Solisti. Making their debuts on the Kohl stage this season will be the Aeolus Quartet, the Music of Remembrance Ensemble, and the Gryphon Trio.

After a successful run in Central Park, playing to over 4,000 people, performances resume on Wednesday, June 27 in Rockefeller Park/Battery Park City for New York Classical Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by the company's Founding Artistic Director Stephen Burdman. The production will play this week through June 30, before continuing on to The Battery, Carl Schurz Park, and Brooklyn Bridge Park for performances through July 29. Enjoying fifty years at the peak of the music industry, Justin Hayward's voice has been heard the world over, and now he will appear at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on August 19 at 7:30 p.m. He will perform many songs from his 2016 album All The Way, and the concert also features celebrated fingerstyle acoustic guitarist Mike Dawes.

Free For All, one of the capital's cherished annual traditions, will return this summer to Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), offering two weeks of free performances of the Company's 2016 production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Directed by STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul, whose hit production of Camelot has extended through July 8 due to popular demand, the production will run at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St NW) from August 21-September 2, providing more than 12,000 people the chance to see the play free of charge.

Celebrating its 36th Anniversary, Outfest - the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization promoting equality by creating, sharing, and protecting LGBTQ stories on the screen - today announced the complete programming lineup for the 2018 Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival presented by HBO. The nation's leading LGBTQ festival will be held July 12-22, 2018.

The National Philharmonic ends its 2017-2018 season at The Music Center at Strathmore with a musical celebration, '100th Anniversary of Poland's Independence,' today, June 2 at 8 p.m. at the Concert Hall at the Music Center at Strathmore. Conducted by world-renowned Polish Maestro Miros?aw Jacek Baszczyk, the concert will feature music composed by Poland's greatest musicians, performed by some of today's leading vocalists and musicians. The performance will commence with an introduction by the Ambassador of Poland, Piotr Wilczek. The 100th anniversary of Poland has significant meaning for the National Philharmonic, which is led by Polish-born Music Director and Conductor Piotr Gajewski. One of the National Philharmonic's veteran artists, Brian Ganz-who will perform at the Polish celebration concert-is also a frequent performer of Frederic Chopin, beginning a quest in 2011 to perform all of the great Polish composer's works. During this celebratory concert, Maestro B?aszczyk will lead the National Philharmonic Chorale, accompanied by Esther Heideman, soprano; Magdalena Wor, mezzo-soprano; Tyler Duncan, baritone; and the National Philharmonic in Krzesimir D?bski's Hussars' Polonaise and Karol Szymanowski's Stabat Mater and Mr. Ganz in Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21.  Ticket prices are $23-$76 and are free for young people age 7-17.
