In Broadway by Design, BroadwayWorld is shining a spotlight on the stellar designs of this Broadway season, show by show. Today, we continue the series with Derek McLane, Justin Townsend, Peter Hylenski and Catherine Zuber, who acted as scenic, lighting, sound and costume designers for Broadway's Moulin Rouge.

It was 1968 when literary giant Horace Mungin penned his first published work, 'Dope Hustler's Jazz,' part one of a two volume set of anti-drug poetry. 'Dope Hustler's Jazz' was the beginning of a writing career that started in the Black Arts Movement and would extend over five decades of literary contributions.

When it opened on Broadway in 2006, The Drowsy Chaperone boasted an all-star cast and garnered five Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. You can expect that same quality in Broadway at Music Circus' third production of the summer, with Lynne Wintersteller returning to Sacramento in the title role. Lynne was last seen here in 2017 as Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! and as Mother Superior in Sister Act, where she solidified her place as Music Circus royalty and left audiences anticipating her return. Model, actress, and recovery coach Dona Speir announces the publication of her autobiographical memoir, 'Naked Truth: The Fall and Rise of Dona Speir' (ISBN: 978-1939282422). Co-written with well-known author/journalist Chris Epting, this memoir reveals the hard truths, personal struggles, and eventual triumph over abuse, sexual exploitation, and addiction that have shaped Speir's life.

At a talkback after a show at her school, the presenter asked the audience if anyone had experienced a time when something they considered a flaw turned out to be an asset. Jessie Knowles raised her hand and boldly told the audience that her bipolar and schizophrenia actually heightened her creativity and spiritual insight. The room went silent and Jessie noticed that afterward people either treated her differently or avoided her altogether. She realized the lack of understanding people had about mental health…and that she could do something about it.

IFC Center today announced an impressive and wide-ranging lineup for the third annual Split Screens Festival (www.splitscreensfestival.com) taking place Wednesday, May 29 through Monday, June 3, 2019, at the IFC Center in New York City. The festival consists of special events offering a variety of looks at history, identity and the mystery of existence itself, including panels on series that explore dystopian realities and alternate timelines, and screenings that transport us into any number of time periods and places, be it a late-1800s South Dakota town or the height of 1980s ballroom culture in New York City.

Last night the heaven's opened the flood gates and it rained as if a hurricane was upon us in Miami, Florida. I have never seen so many lightning bolts nor that much flooding on I-95. Although not many people braved the storm, I was proud to be among the few that came to watch the Adrienne Arsht Center and The House Theatre of Chicago's UNITED FLIGHT 232. In one word, exquisite. The storytelling was incredibly inspired. I have a brand new appreciation and love for documentary style theatre. In the intimate Carnival Studio Theatre, it was hard not to hear the very visceral response the audience was having. As tears ran down my face, I could hear the muffled sounds of crying as the remarkable cast told the true story of fatal United Flight 232. It's adapted for the stage from the critically acclaimed book, Flight 232: A Story of Disaster and Survival by Laurence Gonzales.

Balladeer-musical theater actor Gerald Santos discloses, 'I'm silly. I'm crazy as well. I'm human,' although his fans who have been following his career--from his first appearance on GMA's 'Pinoy Pop Superstar' Season Two (2006) to his final bow as one of the principal actors in the recent 'Miss Saigon' UK-Ireland-International tour (2017-2019)--perceive him otherwise.

Oh my god, I have literally nothing to say about Les Miz. Well, maybe not nothing... not literally! It's not gonna be hard to throw these out, I'll tell you that much. I have so many freaking Les Miz CDs and they all take up so much space at two--even three--discs a pop. The only one I ever really listened to in its entirety more than a couple of times was the Original London cast anyway.
