The Stratford Festival lost one of its pioneers today. Douglas Rain died of natural causes early this morning at the age of 90 at St. Marys Memorial Hospital, just outside of Stratford, Ontario, the city in which he established his career, becoming one of the world's great classical actors.

The Theatre Company at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) is proud to announce playwrights, dates and details for the 2019 Colorado New Play Summit. The 14th annual festival will take place over two weekends, 2/16-2/17 and 2/22-2/24, and feature readings of new plays by Beaufield Berry, Isaac Gomez, Bonnie Metzgar, Tony Meneses, and a new musical by Neyla Pekarek and Karen Hartman. Academy Award-®winning actress Judi Dench will receive the Golden Icon Award on October 3. Dench will also present her latest film, RED JOAN, a drama inspired by the life of Melita Norwood, in which she plays a woman whose tranquil life is suddenly disrupted when she's arrested by MI5 and accused of providing intelligence to Communist Russia. Dench will present the film alongside co-star Sophie Cookson, who plays Young Joan.

The Theatre Group at SBCC will start the season July 11-28, 2018 in the Garvin Theatre with the musical, GREASE.  Book, lyrics and music by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.

Casting is complete for HURRICANE DAMAGE, a world-premiere dramedy by the New York-based playwright Kevin Brofsky that will be the fourth entry in Pride Films and Plays' five-show PAC Pride Fest. HURRICANE DAMAGE, opening on August 3 after previews on August 1 and 2, concerns two long-time partners, veterans of the 1970's gay scene in New York, living on Florida's Gulf Coast. Dennis and Oscar are visited by an old friend of those days, a photographer named Norman who has remained single and brings back bittersweet memories of their glory days in Manhattan.  The couple will be played by company member Charles A. Berglund as Dennis and Danne W. Taylor as Oscar.

Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Long Day's Journey Into Night  comes to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts for a limited three-week engagement from Friday, June 8 through Sunday, July 1.
