NORMAN TWAIN, 85, a prominent theatrical producer in New York and California in the 1960's and 1970's who later became a successful and award-winning film producer, died Saturday morning, August 6th, after a brief illness.

Gloucester Stage Company continues its 37th season of professional theater on Cape Ann with a limited run of Jason Robert Brown's Songs For A New World from August 4 through August 27 at 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. Songs For A New World with music and lyrics by three time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown is a stirring musical journey examining the moments of decision and difficult choices faced in everyday life. Known for such Broadway hits as Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas, and The Last Five Years, Mr. Brown artfully blends pop, jazz and gospel in solos and ensemble styles to create this inspiring song cycle.  Directed by Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Robert Walsh, the production features five singers including Tony Award nominee Barbara Walsh, Broadway veterans Rockport's Wendy Waring and Jack Donahue, Berklee College of Music graduate Chris Pittman and  Brandeis' Nyah Macklin, all four in their Gloucester Stage debut. Oh, the places you'll go! The Oregon Shakespeare Festival transports audiences to a ghostly Danish castle, dynastic China, and Oz's Emerald City when its outdoor theatre opens the weekend of June 17-19. The Allen Elizabethan Theatre will feature Hamlet, directed by Lisa Peterson; the classic 1970s musical The Wiz, directed by Robert O'Hara; and The Winter's Tale, directed by Desdemona Chiang. The shows will close the weekend of October 14-16.

Carrying the torch of the late, legendary songwriter, Ron Miller, is his own multi-talented grandson, Oliver Richman (www.oliverrichman.com) who is releasing a special 50th Anniversary EP, 'For Once In My Life' honoring the legacy of his grandfather who passed away in 2007. In 'Midnight Kill,' written and directed by K.K. Wong, a school campus in a Chinese rural village during the 1970's becomes a theater of twisted, oppressed but indelible human desires. Daily mundane activities become an absurd performance of ordinary people's basic emotions. The play is based around an actual murder story that occurred in a mountain hamlet in Anhui province (China), where the author lived for five years. Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America will present the work's world premiere May 6 to 22 at Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., NYC. It will be performed in Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles and will be completely accessible for English-speaking audiences.
