As Halloween approaches, the movies aren't the only place for a thrill in a darkened theater. This October, a ghost story will come alive through live music at Seattle Opera's The Turn of the Screw directed by Peter Kazaras and conducted by Maestro Constatin Trinks. Set in an old mansion in the countryside, Britten's opera depicts a tale of haunted children that fans of Stranger Things, The Shining, and The Sixth Sense would love.  

LOST DOG's "searingly witty" (SeeingDance) 'Juliet & Romeo' opened to packed houses and critical acclaim at a two week run at Battersea Arts Centre in London earlier this year. Broadly based on Shakespeare's deeply pessimistic teenage love story, this "highly entertaining, extremely amusing and occasionally quite tender evening of theatre and dance" (Times) is performed by Lost Dog's Artistic Director Ben Duke and Solene Weinachter. This clever, funny production explores contemporary culture's celebration of youth and how it creates unrealistic expectations around love, sex and relationships. The Guardian described the show as "smart, subversive and sexy".

In September 2018 award-winning physical theatre company Gecko marks the opening of Battersea Arts Centre's theatre programme in the newly refurbished Grand Hall with Missing, the original run of which was interrupted by a disastrous fire of the Grand Hall in March 2015. Missing is part of the venue's celebratory Phoenix Season.

Mari Marchbanks announced today the 2018 recipients of the biennial Horton Foote Prize, named in honor of the late playwright, which recognizes excellence in American theater. The 2018 Prize for Outstanding New American Play, presented to a work produced in the 2016-17 or 2017-18 seasons, is awarded to Cambodian Rock Band by Lauren Yee. The 2018 Prize for Promising New American Play, presented to a previously unproduced work, is awarded to India Pale Ale by Jaclyn Backhaus.

In the extraordinary new play Leopold Bloom breaks free from Joyce's 'Ulysses' to travel through history and re-discover his Jewish roots in this new play by Richard Fredman that won the Best New Play Award at the Brighton Fringe. The play opens on 3rd August and runs to 25th (no shows on 5, 12, 16, 19 August) at The Just Festival @ St John's (Venue 127) situated on the Scottish capital's Pinces St

Copland House's 2018-19 mainstage season will offer celebrations aplenty! Ranging widely across more than a century of American music, the popular series is Copland House's 10th at Westchester County's majestic Merestead estate in Mount Kisco, NY. Hailed by The New York Times for "all the richness of its offerings, first-rate fare, and reputation for quality," the series has become a destination for an enthusiastic and growing audience of musical adventurers seeking discoveries of the new, old, and unexpected.

After a sold-out workshop run in March, Paranormal History Productions returns to Colonnade Row with an official limited run of The Bloody Deed of 1857 for the autumn season. The immersive 90 minute play is an adaptation of news accounts which reported the breathless daily developments about a sensational murder that took place on nearby Bond Street. Elise Gainer, author of Ghosts and Murders of Manhattan, credits the nearby Merchant's House Museum with the idea to turn this true-life murder into a play. The work was selected as the featured piece in the Tectonic Theatre Project's Advanced Moment Work Master Class with Moises Kaufman in May 2017. Ken Davenport, the veteran Broadway producer, consulted on this unique immersive experience including script and overall project development.

Continuing their 2018 season, Theater RED revisits the 19th century's most cherished Shakespearean actor, Edwin Booth, for another Milwaukee premiere. Written and directed by Angela Iannone, and featuring Theater RED alumni and Chicago-based actor and playwright Jared McDaris, 'This Prison Where I Live' marks the second collaboration between Theater RED and Iannone as a playwright and director, after 2015's critically acclaimed The Seeds of Banquo.

Paper Mill Playhouse has announced casting for The Color Purple, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle. Cast members from the 2015 Broadway revival lead the Paper Mill Playhouse company, including Adrianna Hicks (Aladdin, Sister Act - Germany) as Celie, Carla R. Stewart (Ghost - National Tour, Rent - Regional) as Shug Avery and Carrie Compere (Holler If You Hear Me,Shrek the Musical - National Tour) as Sofia.

The Woodstock Film Festival is thrilled to announce its 2018 top honorary award recipients: Tony®, Emmy®, and Grammy® winning and Oscar® nominated filmmaker, Julie Taymor will receive the honorary Maverick Award at the 19th annual Woodstock Film Festival. Oscar® nominated and Emmy® award-winning director Matthew Heineman will receive the Filmmaker Award of Distinction during that same time. The Maverick Awards ceremony takes place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Backstage Studio Productions in Kingston, NY. Additionally, Heineman's feature narrative debut, A PRIVATE WAR, starring Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan and Stanley Tucci will close the film festival on the evening of Sunday, October 14th and Taymor's globally renowned ACROSS THE UNIVERSE will have a special tribute screening on the morning of October 14th. Kansas City Actors Theatre has completed casting for its production of Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit," the first show of its fourteenth season, which will run from August 8th to the 26th at the City Stage in Union Station. The production will be directed by Doug Weaver and will star Cinnamon Schultz, Coleman Crenshaw, Vanessa Severo, Jan Rogge, Matt Rapport, Cheryl Weaver, and Margaret Shelby. The production team includes Kelli Harrod (Scenic Designer), Bill Christie (Properties Designer), Sarah M. Shakespeare's Globe has announced full casting for Matt Hartley's new play Eyam, directed by Adele Thomas, opening in The Globe on Saturday 15 September. When the plague arrives surprisingly in the Derbyshire village of Eyam in 1665, the community face a moral dilemma. They must decide whether to flee and risk spreading the vicious disease, or stay, protect others from the risk, and face the potential of their own slow and painful death.
