Equality, inclusion and joy permeated the performances at this year's poignant and record-breaking Red Bucket Follies. The show celebrated six weeks of enthusiastic fundraising by 67 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring shows for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 60th Anniversary holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with a star-studded Opening Night Gala Benefit performance and party led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, with iconic film stars Angela Bassett and Cicely Tyson as honorary chairs. Prudential Financial received the Ailey Legacy Honor for their generous support and commitment to Ailey, especially its education and community programs. The award was presented by Battle and Christopher Taylor, an alumnus of the inaugural AileyCamp Newark (2011) and a current scholarship student at The Ailey School, and accepted by Lata Reddy, Senior Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion and Impact at Prudential Financial.

New York City Opera has announced that it will produce the world premiere of the award-winning jazz composer/pianist Ted Rosenthal's DEAR ERICH.  This new jazz opera, to be co-produced with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, will open Wednesday, January 9 and will play four performances only through Sunday, January 13 at the Edmond J. Safra Hall at 36 Battery Place, in lower Manhattan.

The 2018 Parajanov-Vartanov Award went to Academy-award winner Susan Sarandon and American Mirror - Intimations of Immortality directed by Arthur Balder and produced by David Shara, premiered at DOC LA, Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival, presented by the Parajanov-Vartanov Institute.

Adam Bock's A Life, commissioned by Portland Center Stage at The Armory, will receive its West Coast debut at The Armory following the success of the play's world premiere in New York. A Life begins preview performances on September 29, opens on October 5, and runs through November 11 in the Ellyn Bye Studio. Associate Artistic Director Rose Riordan, who has frequently partnered with Bock, will direct. Nat DeWolf (Broadway: Take Me Out) will make his company debut as the astrology-loving and hopelessly single Nate Martin. DeWolf is joined by Cycerli Ash, also making her debut at The Armory, as well as returning artists Dana Green (Major Barbara and many others) and Gary Norman (Our Town).

Broadway in San Antonio is thrilled to announce WAITRESS, playing the Majestic Theatre as part of the North Park Lexus Broadway in San Antonio 2018-2019 season, for eight performances, January 8-13, 2019.   Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m., Friday, October 5.

Alan D. Marks and Barbara Marks have announced the development of the Broadway bound original musical inspired by the life and art of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Jon Batiste ("The Late Show with Stephen Colbert") has written the music & lyrics and Tony Award Winner John Doyle will direct. The development team is working closely with the Basquiat Estate and have secured the rights to Jean-Michel's art work and personal archives.

As part of Columbus' celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance, the Drexel Theatre will present a special screening of Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser on Thursday, September 27. Released in 1988, the 90-minute documentary chronicles the life of legendary jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk (1917-82) and features live performances by Monk and his group as well as posthumous interviews with friends and family.

Lookingglass Theatre Company, Court Theatre and Manual Cinema, Lifeline Theatre, and Remy Bumppo Theatre Company announce FRANKENSTEIN: Unearthed, a one-time-only event exploring the four productions of this classic tale coming to Chicago stages during the 2018-2019 season. The life of Charles Hamlen, one of classical music's most legendary managers and philanthropists, will be celebrated at an intimate house concert featuring renowned violinist and Hamlen protege Joshua Bell. The Monday, October 1, tribute is produced by and benefits the organization Hamlen founded, Classical Action: Performing Arts Against AIDS, now a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

It was announced today that Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman (School of Rock) will star as 'Beetlejuice' and two-time Lortel Award nominee Sophia Anne Caruso (Lazarus) will star as 'Lydia' in the world premiere Pre-Broadway engagement of the new musical comedy Beetlejuice.

The 72nd Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 10th at 8/9c hosted by Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize...

Producer Scott Rudin has announced that to accommodate ticket demand, Edward Albee's Three Tall Women will add a ninth performance in its final week of performances. Nominated for six 2018 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Play, Three Tall Women must close as previously scheduled on Sunday, June 24, with the added 7:00 PM show now the final performance for the ecstatically received production. Thirteen new independent feature projects from the U.S., Cuba, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, and Palestine have been selected for the 2018 Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs. At the Directors Lab (May 28-June 21), filmmakers will rehearse, shoot and edit key scenes from their scripts, working closely with industry advisors, actors, and production crews to help drive creative growth via an immersive and hands-on experience at the Sundance Resort in Utah. The Screenwriters Lab from June 23-28  fosters a similar environment of dynamic inspiration as participants focus on the art and craft of screenplay writing with one-on-one support from Institute advisors . Overseen by Feature Film Program Founding Director Michelle Satter and Labs Director Ilyse McKimmie, the Labs begin a year-round continuum of customized support for Fellows, which can include creative mentorship, granting, and guidance from industry professionals. 

Edward Albee's Three Tall Women will play a special Midnight Performance as a benefit for The Actors Fund. The production, directed by Joe Mantello, opened on Broadway on March 29 to ecstatic reviews. Last week, Mantello's production of The Boys in the Band started previews on Broadway. The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia (COP) continues our Improvisionaries season presenting trailblazing composer and electric violist, Martha Mooke.  COP's fifth series program at the Kimmel Center, Mozart, Mooke, and Faure, will feature Mozart's brilliant Symphony No. 38 "Prague." This iconic work received its first performance in Prague during one of Mozart's most successful tours to the city. The "Prague" symphony will share the program with a new commission by Martha Mooke. Mooke's unique style crosses the classical, jazz, and rock genres with a compelling and singular musical voice. In addition to concert appearances worldwide, Mooke's work has been featured in recordings that often defy categorization, including David Bowie's Heathen CD.
