FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, SWEENEY TODD, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, COMPANY, CABARET, FOLLIES. Each was directed and/or produced by Broadway legend Harold Prince. Each contributed to his record-high pile of Tony awards, and has been produced and acclaimed across the world.

Rehearsals are set to begin on Tuesday, July 25 for the Playwrights Horizons New York premiere production of For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday, a new play by two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Sarah Ruhl (Stage Kiss, Dead Man's Cell Phone at Playwrights; In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; The Clean House).

It's only just out of reach... the Fall theatre season, that is. The 2017 Tony Awards are in the history books, so now it's time to look ahead at the new Broadway season... and fear not- it's a doozy already. With new musicals and plays about to descend on Broadway and amazing revivals of classic plays and musicals ready to entrance a new audience, BroadwayWorld has rounded up everything arriving before the end of the year.

After a career in opera, Mary Beth Peil made her Broadway debut in 1985's THE KING AND I, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Now, 32 years later, she's back on the ballot, earning herself a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performances as the dazzling Dowager Empress in Anastasia. The 71st Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 11th at 8/9c hosted by Kevin Spacey. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. Irish Repertory Theatre has announced its Summer 2017 Season. On the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage will be WOODY SEZ: THE LIFE & MUSIC OF WOODY GUTHRIE, directed by Nick Corley (Kissing Jessica Stein).

Urban Stages' Board of Directors and founding artistic director Frances Hill will celebrate 'The Magic of Set and Costume Design' by presenting the 2017 Urban Stages' Lifetime Achievement Award to Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award-winning legendary set and costume designer Tony Walton presented by Broadway, television and film star Melissa Errico ('Billions', My Fair Lady, High Society, Encores' Do I Hear a Waltz?) at their gala benefit at the Boathouse in Central Park at 6:30PM on May 15, 2017.

Titicut Follies: The Ballet, a world premiere ballet choreographed by James Sewell and inspired by Frederick Wiseman's startling 1967 documentary, will run for three performances, April 28 - 30, 2017 at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Titicut Follies: The Ballet will be performed by the James Sewell Ballet, with an original score by Lenny Pickett.

The Lyric Hammersmith has announced its new season running May 2017 to January 2018 including three major new productions: a UK premiere, a new adaptation of a classic and the return of the now traditional Lyric pantomime.

David Mirvish, Michael Harrison, John Reid and Paul Elliott are delighted to present the Canadian premiere of the new British musical MRS HENDERSON PRESENTS, based on the smash-hit film.  Performances begin Wednesday March 15 through April 23 at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre.  Media night is Wed March 22, 2017

The Atlantic for Kids 2016/2017 Season will resume today, March 4, with the family rock concert meets live theater adventure Wonderland: Alice's Rock & Roll Adventure, a New York premiere musical based on Lewis Carroll's beloved Alice and Wonderland tales, featuring book and lyrics by Rachel Rockwell, music and lyrics by Michael Mahler, and direction by Marshall Pailet.

Inspired by Georges Seurat's pointillism masterwork 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,' the authors explore how 'the art of making art' can be less about applying paint to a canvas as it is about applying a signature to a check.

Six-time Tony Award-winning costume designer CATHERINE ZUBER and legendary scenic designer TONY STRAIGES are among the 2017 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients which were just announced by Theatre Development Fund (TDF), a not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts.

I once fell in love with an album cover: Barbra Streisand, dressed in the height of granny chic, in a straw hat, drapey black cardigan and maxi skirt, and men's-style oxfords with rakish white socks...a desolate stage littered with sheet music...a rich burgundy-and-black color scheme. I first discovered Sondheim through that 1985 record, 'The Broadway Album,' and I still can't hear 'Pretty Women' without thinking of Streisand's sinuous interpretation. The talent who first burst forth onstage in 1962 in 'I Can Get It for You Wholesale'; who made a hilarious, touching 'Funny Girl' her signature role; who tackled 'A Star Is Born' in its third film incarnation-and who has stayed mostly in the spotlight professionally and mostly out of it personally over the last 54 years-has mellowed, but her voice is still completely unique, and her fans (old and new) still utterly devoted. Her political activism has become part of her shtick, and her recent live performance of a 'Send in the Clowns' parody mocking Donald Trump has become a popular clip online. She is, for lack of a less battered word, an icon, and fans thrilled to see her-as always, dressed for the occasion-hand the Tony for Best Musical to 'Hamilton' this year.

The 2015-16 Janet and Mark L. Goldenson Broadway Musical Concert Series at Rubicon Theatre Company concludes with a concert presentation of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG.
