Not only was the premise intriguing, then, but the treatment, and particularly the talent Stillpointe brought to this performance, seemed quite promising. As hard as it often was to work out exactly what was being said and sung, the characters certainly had the capacity to intrigue us.

Designed and directed by Jeff Becker, who leads a team of fellow New Orleans-based artists, Sea of Common Catastrophe follows three long-time residents of a tiny seaside town whose lives are uprooted when a compelling stranger arrives. Inspired by a passage from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novella Sea of Lost Time-where a town drowns on a Sunday afternoon but persists, submerged, in its daily life, as if the deluge had never occurred-Sea of Common Catastrophe uses spectacular lighting and video, live music, and an innovative two-story set to evoke a changing landscape of upscale living and chic restaurants that suddenly transforms into a magical sunken world.

Running virtually simultaneous with the celebrated Fresh Fruit Festival is the innovative Trans Theatre Festival July 9 - 22, 2018

The Gallery at The Sheen Center (18 Bleecker Street, NYC) presents 'LR9: 1957,' a multimedia group exhibition inspired by the Little Rock Nine. Curated by Ajamu Kojo, the exhibition includes oil painting, collage, sculture, found-object art and projected film works by artists including Patrick Earl Barnes, Kimberly Becoat, Paul Deo, Aimee Everett, Chet Gold, Aaqil Ka, Ajamu Kojo, Roni Nicoleand Valincy-Jean Patelli. The exhibition is open to the public through August 3. The Gallery is open daily from 9AM to 11PM. All works on exhibition are available for purchase.

Months of speculation come to an end today as details of the new Interpol album can finally be confirmed: One of the most critically and commercially acclaimed bands of the last decade and a half will release their sixth album, Marauder, August 24th on Matador Records.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association today announced the following updates to the 2018/19 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall.  

Schimmel Center will present Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning solo performance, Notes From the Field, for one weekend only on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Today, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in preparation for a two week run at the Royal Court in London. The production is directed by Leonard Foglia and features original music composed and performed by bassist Marcus Shelby who joins Ms. Smith on stage.

Broadway legend Chita Rivera will be presented with a Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre at the 72nd Annual Tony Awards on June 10, 2018. This award recognizes theatre artists that have made significant contributions to theatre throughout their life.

The Flaming Lips announce their first official “hits” collection on Warner Bros. Records to be released on June 1. Greatest Hits Vol. 1 will compile eleven WBR-era singles and album tracks on a single black vinyl pressing. This is the first time The Lips have presented singles from Transmissions From The Satellite Heart (1993), Clouds Taste Metallic (1995), The Soft Bulletin (1999), Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (2002), At War With The Mystics (2006), Embryonic (2009) and their current album Oczy Mlody (2017) on a single disc. The Deluxe digital and Deluxe 3-CD Editionof Greatest Hits Vol.1 significantly expands the concept of their “hits” and gathers some of their best-loved album tracks from the aforementioned albums plus deep cuts from their WBR album debut, Hit To Death In The Future Head (1992), along with music from, Zaireeka (1997), The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends (2012) and The Terror (2013). Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Long Day's Journey Into Night  comes to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts for a limited three-week engagement from Friday, June 8 through Sunday, July 1. Richard Eyre's acclaimed Bristol Old Vic production stars Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons(Brideshead Revisited, Reversal of Fortune,  'The Borgias') and Olivier Award winner and Oscar nominee Lesley Manville(Another Year,  'Harlots,' Phantom Thread). Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game, The Riot Club), Rory Keenan (BBC's 'War & Peace,' 'Peaky Blinders') and Jessica Regan (reprising the role as Cathleen from the 2016 Bristol Old Vic production) round out the ensemble cast.

 Bravo Media sets sail for high sea adventures with season three of “Below Deck Mediterranean” premiering Today, May 15 at 9pm ET/PT. This season cruises through scenic Italy, one of the most historic and desired yachting locations in the Mediterranean. Captain Sandy Yawn is once again at the helm of the 178' “Talisman Maiton,” the largest superyacht in Below Deck history. Joining Captain Sandy from last season are Hannah Ferrier (Chief Stew) and Adam Glick (Chef), along with a new set of “yachties” Brooke Laughton (Second Stew), Kasey Cohen (Third Stew), Conrad Empson (Bosun), Joao Franco (Lead Deckhand), Colin Macy-O'Toole(Deckhand) and Jamie Jason (Deckhand).

LAByrinth Theater Company (Artistic Director John Ortiz) recently announced that they will present the World Premiere of Devil of Choice by LAB Member Maggie Bofill (Winners, Drawn and Quartered). They are thrilled for performances to begin Wednesday, May 23, and will run through Saturday, June 9, 2018, at The Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street, New York, NY 10014). Producers of The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre have unveiled its new 2018/2019 Season, which will also be the theatre's 25th Silver Anniversary Season. The curtain first rose on Way Off Broadway in 1995 with a production of Let the Good Times Roll. Since then, Way Off Broadway has produced over 100 productions, ranging from classic musicals to regional premieres.

For its 27th annual event, Dance for Life Chicago presents a diverse group of companies and artists performing August 18 at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway, Chicago. Dance for Life, which mobilizes Chicago's dance community by raising funds through dance, presents this annual benefit performance, which is preceded by a gala reception at the Hilton Chicago.

Boston Playwrights' Theatre (BPT) presents Boston Theater Marathon XX, featuring 50 ten-minute plays, written by 51 New England playwrights, and produced by 50 New England theatres in ten hours.

Singer and pianist Kandace Springs offers her fans a taste of her forthcoming sophomore album due out later this year with the release of her Black Orchid EP, featuring three brand new tracks produced by Karriem Riggins that are available to stream or download today. Day three of New York Live Arts' Live Ideas 2018: Radical Vision festival, Saturday, April 21, looks at our electoral process through readings, a workshop, panel discussions, and a performance spectacle.  

Friday, April 20, day two of Live Ideas 2018: Radical Vision looks into the role of the press, what it means to be a journalist in an endangered liberal democracy, and what obligations the press has today. Opening the day will be visual artist Huiying B. Chan, who will read words by legendary activist Grace Lee Boggs, followed by author and journalist Moustafa Bayoumi's reading of works by Edward Said and a presentation of speeches by Muhammad Ali read by journalist Greg Tate. The readings will start at 4 pm. Admission is free.
